Due to a smallish leak in my airbag, I am in the midst of removing and
replacing it. I have copied off pretty good instructions and in them in
states to loosen the nut on the nonair inflation side. Then to remove the
nut on the other side (ok, it does mention several things to do before, but
I am cutting to the chase here). It says if when trying to loosen the
second nut, the entire stud spins, to stop. Next deflate bag, remove nut on
other side and then spin the bag off. This leaves the inflate side nut
captive in the mounting bracket. To remove it, one is to use an easy out.
This makes sense, but I was wondering if there might be an easier way that
one of you have been using. If not, Wednesday I use the above method.

When I took my old ones off, one side came off without issues. The other side I ended destroying the bag. I cut it open. Then I could get a vise grip on the backside of stud.
After I did that, someone suggested to me that I could have put the other nut back on (loosely), then inflate the bag. And supposedly that would've given it enough resistance that I could have loosened the nut without the stud spring. I never had a chance to test that method, so do not know if it really works.

Fay,
Spray both ends with penetrating oil a number of times over the period of a week or so and I'll bet you won't have any problems when
you try to remove them.
Coat the nuts and bag studs with a bit of grease and they'll be easy to remove should you need to do so.

If you are left with a fillport dog bone trapped in your bogie a pipe
wrench on the end which used to live in the airbag is your friend. And make
sure your other friends oxy and acetylene are nearby jic.

After the penetrating oil treatment mentioned, I loosen the non-fill end, then deflate the bag, remove the fill tubing, put the correct size box end wrench over the nut on the fill end, then reconnect the tubing and re-inflate the bag. That has always held things together for me while I loosen the nut on the fill side. Good Luck

Lots of good suggestions posted here. Which one(s) to use really depends on what you run into. Those nuts you are trying to loosen do not really have anything to do with supporting the coach weight. They are really just keepers (1/2 the thickness of a normal nut that size) and are only there to keep the bag from hopping out of place or rotating while driving.
So what you want to do is loosen them up while you have air pressure on the bag to help keep the bag from rotating. What I usually try first is to soak the nuts with Kroil for a couple of days. Then loosen the non-hose one with an offset box end, or socket, or socket on an impact. That is the easy one. Then I block the bogies and deflate the bag. Disconnect the hose and install an offset box wrench. Reinstall the air hose and air the bag up again. If it does not come loose, try a little heat on the nut and shock cool the center with Kroil. Try removing it again.
If all of that does not work you can try deflating the bag and using an impact wrench.
Only twice did I ever have to resort to a flame wrench. It was on two different occasions on the same coach a year apart.
So have at it and post here if you get stuck. Soak those nuts several times before starting.
When you install the new one, anti-seize the threads and go to your local ACE hardware and buy 4 new stainless jam nuts. It is the largest fine thread nut in the stainless jam nut box. Use those nuts and you will never have a problem removing them in the future.

One of mine would not budge. Used heat, freezit can, atf/acetone , PB. Grabbed bag end with easy out and breaker bar and 6 point and Air Cat on the inflation stud nut. After much impact started changing the shape of the nut flats. After a week of this I got my friend from Milwaukee. His name is Sawzall and cut through the inflation stud near the control arm. About 20 seconds. Still have the 2 pieces. So moral is I am glad this was in my garage and not on road side and don't throw away savable inflation studs because Cinnabar gets $60 each for good take offs. Also save the thick and especially the thinner nuts.

G'day,
When Harbor Freight put their 3/4" impact wrench on sale I decided to buy two; one for the USA and one for Australia. I reckoned
that since it puts out over 1000 lbs torque it would:
a) break anything loose
or
b) shear the bolt / stud
I have used them a number of times and I was correct; the last time I used it was on a wheel stud on the 1995 Jeep I have in Houston
that had a lug nut that galled and froze to the stud. After hammering for about 30 seconds the stud sheared and the lug nut was in
the socket.

So tried soaking for several days, but stud on inflation side still spun.
Aired bag up and tried again after more penetrating fluid using impact
wrench and got it to move a bit so thought I was good to go. Unfortunately,
I was wrong. So now have airbag off and inflation "doggone" stuck in boogie
mt. Tried easy out in bag side and impact wrench on other side, but still
no joy. Have thought I could just leave it and use it in replacement bag,
but that bag still has stud in it and have not been able to get it out.
Next idea is to try and find nuts for bag side and use impact wrench to
possibly get nut off. Or try to find a nut splitter. Not thrilled about
using flame.
Anyone have a better suggestion short of sawzall for removal of either or
both?

Heat is still your friend. Now the that bag is off there is nothing there to worry about over heating. First I would try to drive a screwdriver or wedge of some kind in between the side that has the exposed threads and the bogie arm. Then heat the nut on the other side with a propane / butane torch. Get is as hot as possible (4 or 5 minutes) and then TURN OFF THE TORCH. Shock cool the stud in the center of the nut with Kroil or PB Baster. Immed1ately put a socket and impact on the nut and try turning it in both directions. One you get it to move slightly, oil it some more and keep alternating directions on the impact until the nut comes off.
2 other ideas.
1. You suggested getting a large nut for the exposed thread end. Try that. TSC in Fortuna, CA might have the nut that you need.
2. Try drilling the nut on one of the flat edges. Stop before you hit the center stud. Then chisel across the nut where the hole is drilled trying to split the nut. Use a hand chisel or better an air muffler gen. I have never tried this. It was Bob B's idea.

Frozen fasteners are an unavoidable part of older equipment restoration. The first observation is airbag is not going to be reusable because the stud broke the weld loose inside the airbag itself, which will require removing the rubber bladder to get to it. When I removed my leaking air bags, I had one stud spin. I used a small pipe wrench (6" ridgid) on the exposed stud beyond the stuck nut and using a box wrench was able to move the nut about 2 turns before it stuck again. I placed a nut between the arm and the nut and then with a new 4 1/2" cut off wheel, cut through the body of the nut at the thread line, making sure that I did not touch the arm (which is why I had that insurance washer between the nut and the arm. Once cut through, and after the nut cooled off, it came off with just hand force.

I assume that she got it fixed. There is not much I can do from more the 2300 miles away, other than supply moral support. I still would like to know that she got it done. I have a friend that is flying out to her area on Saturday (Medford, OR) and I might try to reroute him if she still has problems. I have not mentioned it to him.

Ken, Still working on it. Drilled holes on two opposite flats, but not able
to chisel off. Go?as might need to be deeper or wider or I might need more
muscle. So going to plan c and will be using grinder on nut.
Still busy with school until Friday so haven't had much time to work on it.
Hope to have good results this weekend if weather cooperates.

Oh, did get the stud off of the spare bag so can replace old o ring before
installation.

If you have or can borrow an air powered chisel (muffler gun) try it on the flats where you drilled the holes. I hope you have been soaking it with penetrating oil (Kroil or PB Blaster, or a home made ATF and acetone solution)
I still suggest a little bit of heat and shock cooling with penetrating oil.
