I didn't have much interest in a macerator. But won one at a GMCMI rally. It was put in a drawing by Jim K at Applied. Thanks Jim. When I built this 78 Royale. I made it so I can dump the gray, or black separately. I drain the black tank. Then flush out with the gray tank water. Plus I can dump by way of the macerator, or the 3 inch dump line if I have too. Or just want too. I had heard about the hair issue. So I have a small piece of plastic window screen in the floor drain that I can clean simply. When we get home. ( Have a dump station next to my drive at home.) I had installed a tank flush nozzle in the black tank. Puts out about 9 gallons a minute in a fan shaped pattern. Fill the black tank 2 to 3 times. Use the 3" tank drain line that has a clear section for that flush. In hopes of getting a fast moving flow. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale

The hair also goes down the sink drain and possibly the toilet. My wife has long hair and I used to travel with two daughters with long hair. They all brushed their hair in the bathroom and lots of it fell all over. I was probably one of the first people to install a macerator. I installed one back in 1984 and have had to take them apart many times to clear out hair that was clogging the chopper blade.

Bob, using the 3” hose when you get home will certainly help keep the macerator from clogging. I still have a 3” connection but rarely use it unless the macerator is not working. At home I have to use the macerator into a sewer cleanup fitting.

Bob, after using the macerator a bit you will get over any love for the 3". Since installing a macerator I have used the 3" zero times. We shower daily in the coach so we have lots of water with the "other".

I never had hair problems but have been told, "No dental floss!" You like modifications. Nick Roenick has a remote control to run his macerator.

Emery,

I've had a macerator since 2001 and absolutely love the thing. I would never go back to the 3" slinky for campground dumping. Like you, I still keep the 3" slinky for emergency dumping.

In the 18 years that I've had a macerator, it only clogged up once and that wasn't because of hair etc. It was because of a float that broke off the black tank's level sensor when I replaced it a few years ago with a magnetically coupled sensor. It had worked its way into the smaller diameter fitting leading to the macerator. I used the 3" to continue dumping during that trip and refresh my memory of how much of a hassle it is to dump that way.

It was a bit of a surprise when I took the macerator apart and found it in the plumbing fitting leading to its input side. It was my fault for not being more careful during the sensor R&R.
