I had a clogged macerator due to hair on the chopper blade. When I removed it I found that two of the bolts holding it together were loose. Further inspection revealed that they were brass studs that had corroded and broken just above where they screwed into the middle section of the pump. I was able to remove them by drilling from the bottom of the studs with a small drill which caught into the studs and spun them right out.
Jabsco makes a couple of service kits. The full service kit which has the plastic pump body, gaskets and impeller sells for $52.31 on Amazon. Part no: 18598-1000.
However I did not need that kit. I bought the stainless steel bolt kit 17288-1000 for $16.52 on Amazon.
This kit has 4 bolts, two long and two shorter. These replace the brass studs and acorn nuts. You just put medium strength loctite (blue) on the threads and screw the bolts in from the inlet end. They should not break or corrode like the brass studs did.
I now have a $130 macerator rebuilt for a cost of $16.52.
I have also decided to put a 1-1/2” Valterra plastic waste value between the macerator and the connection to the 3” sewage pipe. I found a good price for that on etrailer.com. This will make it much easier to remove the pump in the future as it will not be necessary to drain the holding tank. I have another Jabsco macerator pump that had broken brass studs so I also rebuilt that one with the bolt kit to carry as a spare. It will be a fast job to replace it if it gets clogged again and much less messy.

Emery, Thanks!
This is the post I was looking for. My Flojet did the same thing with one of the brass studs while backing the castle nut off. I wonder if this kit will work with the Flojet? I don't see why not, 2long studs and 2 shorter studs.
Scott.

I think most parts are interchangeable between the two makes.

BTW,
Just got off the phone with the tech person at Xylem(the parent company of Flojet). They are in the process of changing out the brass studs/bolts in their marine application macerator pumps to stainless steel. Because of breakage of the soft brass. But unfortunately, the marine pumps have different adapters than our motorhome pumps so those bolts will not work for us.
Hopefully in the next year or so the motorhome pumps will come with the stainless studs/bolts. But in the meantime stainless bolts from any hardware store will work just as well.

According to the Klein parts website, they are SAE. Not metric.
I was just going to get 4 4 inch stainless studs and cut to size. Then get 4 stainless castle nuts.
Scott.

Matt,
You are 100% correct. It's the acorn nut.

Kleen-Rite has the best prices on the Jabsco 18598-2000 service kit at $52 but add shipping. Same thing at Amazon is $105.
Just something to think about.........

I'm looking at the -2000. It has the garden hose attachment by the impeller. The -1000 has the barbed attachment. Hard to believe, but that is the $50 difference on Amazon.
