It's time to replace the water heater on my '77 Royale. The original is a Bowen 6 gallon propane with the engine heat exchange. What's the best source and model for a replacement? Thanks for any info!

Bill,
It depends on what type of water heater you want.
If your interested in a tankless water heater, I can help with info.

Jim DeMuir in Alberta makes and sells a stainless steel water heater
...you'll hate to hide it as looks so good !
I think Jim K sells it.
You can check with Jim D himself...shipping may be less since you live in
Wisconsin ( it pays to put basic info in your sig file) and the US dollar
is worth more than the Loonie at the moment so it might be cheaper to order
directly.
There are many addresses for Jim DeMuir, but the fastest is the Black list.

Mine is going on 15 years...flawless!

On a Royal, it uses a LPG unit, so the SS tank that we show will not
work.We supply the Atwood unit which is a direct replaceement.
They are available with the engine heat and also the electric .
We supply few around the country and quote delivered prices.
Glad tto quote delivered prices.

Absolutely correct Jim !

A sig file is only as good as ones ability to read and Bill's file said " 77
Royale 26RB " . It seems 30 years teaching English was a waste ....for me
anyway... !

Mike,
I just glance at the postings and misunderstand most, at least I can say
I'm Asian so there!!!
My first coach I bought in 1980 was a Coachman Royal, so I tend to know a
bit about them.

Weird timing. My GH-6 water heater choose this week to die as well. It did last 40 years past its two year warentee.

From what I've read the footprint on their 6 gallon models should still fit the hole, I'll know more after I try to put one in on Wed.

They don't currently offer a pilot light only model with the engine heat exchanger (as was ours). Brochure here..

http://www.atwoodmobile.com/images/waterheater.pdf

The table on the bottom of page 4 lists their current options. If you want to retain the engine heat exchanger function it looks like there are only 2 models..

GH6-8E which has a board and needs 12 volt power and a switch wired in. And GCH6A-10E which can also run on 110 and will need 12v and 110 feeds and an external switch as well.

Amazon has the best price I could find on the GH6-8E at about 459.00. If you are willing to forego the engine heat the G6A-7 can be had for around 300.
