We were unable to attend the rally due to a wedding near Reno. We are currently not far from Tuscon (~250 miles north near Flagstaff).
I am wondering how the winds are down there. We had to stop our trip home last night due to the extreme winds (forecast 25-40MPH gusting to 55!). I think more actually. Too windy for our GMC and the dozen other RVs we are parked near.
We are currently holed up at the Twin Arrows casino (last night and probably tonight) which is a nice place to wait out the winds.
Anyway, I decided to do some work on the Onan since it developed a rattle a few days ago in Kingman, AZ. While I was outside taking it apart in the extreme winds, a guy walks up to me and starts talking to me about what I was doing and how he used to own a GMC. He proceeds to introduce himself and tells me he is Max Rockafellow. That name sounds familiar and I ask him "did you have anything to do with GMCMI?" and he answered, "Yes I used to be its president". OK sure I remember you from the first GMCMI convention that I went to in Iowa back in 1999. I asked why no more GMC and he explained that they had to get a 5th wheel due to health issues that caused them to need more room for medical supplies. Nice guy who offered the use of his Honda generator and tools.
I got the Onan running again without a rattle. Rattle was caused by a loose flywheel. My fault.

Wind is kicking up here in Tucson, rocking our coach in the KOA RV park.
Some strong gusts.

It was such a nice Rally, thanks for having us and hopefully, Goodbye, to all.
We tried to say bye to all but that wasn't possible ....
We, Marjon and I enjoyed it very much. It was worthwhile our long trip.
We are now in the rental MH at the Bisbee RV Park, the wind gusts were very strong, driving was no fun ...
Bye to you all and thanks!

If you wait until Sunday and Monday the wind will be out of the Southwest in Flagstaff. On Monday it will be out of the Southwest in Tuscon. Then you can throttle back and ride the wind home.

Richard,
I flew into phoenix last night, and you can tell there was some major wind yesterday from the haze in the air. From weather reports, today is 15-20 mph. Windy, but not like it was yesterday. The weather lady last night showed more winds south of phoenix?.
We will be traveling north toward you today in rental car to cottonwood/sedona. If you want a road report, we will be probably leaving phoenix before 9 am. My number is on blacklist. If I see a palm beach parked anywhere I will come knocking.

Kathy and I enjoyed the rally very much and were really happy that we only had to drive 11 miles home and didn't have to battle the wind on a long drive. Hope you all enjoyed our fair city. Too bad it was unseasonably hot that particular week .
The rally was well attended, well organized and run, and REALLY busy. Lots of good information and fellowship. We barely had time to relax, but we can do that any time.
I pulled a dumb move and left my transmission dipstick sitting on top of the engine, after checking the fluid, and evidently lost it on the way home. So, if anyone has an extra one they are willing to sell me. I need a new one.
Thanks to Kim and all who helped in so many ways to make the convention a success. Alex Ferarra and Rick Flanagan fixed the steering on something like 36 coaches while in attendance and didn't have time for much else.

We left the Casino Friday morning during a brief lull in the wind. Picked up the wind again and battled it for 313 miles to ALBUQUERQUE where we will spend the weekend. Kind of cold here at a little less than freezing. Thought it would be warmer in New Mexico.
Hope all made it home from the rally without incident.

I believe the campgrounds at the north rim are closed until mid-May due to snow.

Vern,
What route are you taking? Give us updates on the status of the park at the north rim. It is my understanding that they don’t officially open until May 15th.

Emery,
I can confirm that the road (67) in from Jacob Lake is indeed closed. Not
a problem for us as our real destination was 37 miles beyond, at the Kanab
(Utah) BLM Visitor Center. We are “street” camping across the street
tonight, ready to storm their doors at 8:00am tomorrow. We will be signing
up for the lottery (10 permits issued each day) to hike in to “the Wave.”
https://antelopecanyon.az/get-permit-wave-arizona/
The trip up from Tucson was beautiful, more than worth the disappointment
of not actually seeing the North Rim. That will just have to be another
trip.
Our route was North on AZ 77/79 to Superior, East on US-60 to Show Low,
where we overnighted at the Super Walmart with Billy and Debbie Massey.
That was a first for us, as in 50+ years of RVing I’ve never stayed at a
Walmart.
The next morning we both headed to the Petrified Forest National Park via
AZ-60, Alt US 180. It is well worth another trip to allow a full day or
two for hikes, etc. The Masseys then headed back towards Texas, and we
proceeded West on I-40 from the Painted Desert Visitor Center to Sun
Valley, then North on AZ-77 through the Navajo Nation, to where we
overnighted in the Keams Canyon Municipal Park (no hookups, but perfectly
level and quiet). Then on to Tuba City via AZ-264, where we continued West
on US-160 for 10 miles to turn right on US-89, proceeding North 43 miles to
veer Left onto Alt US-89, crossing the Colorado River on the beautiful
Navajo Bridge at Marble Canyon, continuing West along the spectacular
Vermillion Cliffs to Kanab, Utah.
We confirmed that the “Wave” lottery is conducted Monday thru Sunday,
found a level spot to park for the night, and enjoyed a light supper, as
the sun set behind the cliffs in the West.
Stunning scenery all the way!
Hugs,
Vern and Lenore

The scenery up there is indeed stunning. We had a great time Walmarting
with yall. We spent the next night in Pinetop, then on to Las Cruses
(beautiful drive down 260) where we unknowingly wmarted with Daniel and
Marjon. ( He knocked on our door after dark, causing us to think we might
be getting expelled. haha )
We're off to Ruidoso for a couple days. Meandering our way toward central
Texas.
Living a great adventure
