Welcome to GMC Ownership, and congrats on the purchase/ Thanks for saving another coach.
As you may or may not know what all is needed with the rest of the coach, I might suggest looking for a set of used OEM bags to get you by until you have a good priority list. Dropping 800 to 1600 on a bag system may or may not be the way to go early until you know things like wheel bearings and races are good both front and rear. Your Brakes are in top operational shape, Engine / Trans are operational. The rear can sit on dog bones, or proper length all thread with a piece of pipe just to get the rear off the ground. These are temporary solutions until you have a good idea of what all needs to be done.
Agree with seeing Jim at Applied since your so close.
But again, developing a punch list of things that need to be done in priority order may be a solid way to tackle the coach. This will keep you from being overwhelmed and allow you to learn about each of the systems. These are great coaches.

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum......
Yes, it does look like you got a good one. As an old car restorer, there is a lot I don't need to tell you. You have found JimK and that was a real good start.
First things first: If you do not have all the documentation you might want, it can all be downloaded at B'dub's. Everything is there, you may have to hunt. Once you get it safe to drive, make a point of enjoying what it can do for you.
Now, about this forum. It was originally an email group and still is for many with slow connections and when you post a big picture, it does not auto-resize, so like right now, I am writing of the page end blind.
Because this is an e-mail/forum, and it is truly international (not just USA and Canada) please create a sigfile that contains: A real name this is so other owners will know who you are when you meet them (and you will), a short bit about the coach because there are a lot of differences and some really matter and try to include and serious mods that might make a difference, and a geographic reference so others that may be able to be of assistance will know if they are in striking range. The e-mail readers don't get the header. This will make life easier for both you and the rest of us. That is all under Contol Panel/Account settings. Jsut remember to scroll down to update when you are done.
Right up front, I am going to tell you that the coach is yours to do with as you please. By this I mean that some many other restoration groups look down on those that make changes from stock designs. That is not here. We have many that have been repowered with other engines. Cadillac 500s are as close as you can get to a bolt in, but there are about a dozen diesels out there and more than a few with truck 8.1s. Many have new front suspension taken from a 1-ton GM truck and even more have lots more diskbrakes and other such changes. As these are all do-able things, I suggest that you ask here before seriously consider any of those things. Just because you can do it does not mean you should.
Some thing I will say is that the original designs were really good and I would advise you to use it as built before changing things...
By becoming an owner and joining this forum, you have become a part of an amazing community. When you learn more about this community (that you have just become a part of) you will understand that the coach is more than just another restoration project. It attaches you to a community of supportive and helping people like few others. They (we) all have a not so secret agenda. That agenda is to see that you get to enjoy your coach and what it can do for you as we all do and have. The only other community that I know of that is at all like this is that of the watermen that are my world. For this very reason, I have taken to welcoming any new owners that show up here much as an new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,

MA,
Your spending lot of time doing something that has been done.
The bag your trying to do is not stock. We Call ours a Mono Bag system and
comes complete or supply you what you need.
The plate size you have seem small , so you will hve issues with the unit
later.
I'm at Internatonal Convention in Tucson, but Nick can assist you.

There are a lot of monobag choices today, compared to just a few years ago. You are in salad days for airbag choices.
I went with the sully system - it was well built, worked just like the original and installed easily. Not to say the other options aren't just as good. Just my experience.
Ifn you can weld, there is no reason you can't make them. But, time is one of your most valuable commodity fixing these things up - budget wisely.
There will be lots of opportunities for spending long hours fixing things, and re-inventing the wheel, if you are worried about something to do.
These are wonderful vehicles, state of the art when built, and built to be re-built. But, they are 40 years old, and even well kept originals will need to be gone through and refreshed.
Others will echo here, but make it safe - its a 6 ton missile without brakes, so be sure you go through the brake system before you go too far.
