While I'm changing the radiator, 2 year old antifreeze, water pump, installing the Mercedes Benz fan clutch, and making the fan shroud into a 2 piece. Good time to check out why the radiator low coolant warning light isn't working. I cleaned the sensor in the radiator. That didn't help. Anyone know how to test the circuit board out? Bob, in manual x-7525, page 12-17, figure 23, there is a diagnosis flow
chart for the coolant level circuit. That is about all there is in the
literature. Be sure that your new aluminum radiator is grounded back to the
engine block, as the hoses are insulators. If your probe is not grounded
back to the block, you won't have a complete circuit. That's my best guess,
anyway.

The work with just water if you are trying to test it. But what do you intend to put in “other than glycol”?

The sensor should work with any conductive fluid.

My understanding is the sensor is for coolant percentage and not level. Is this correct?

On similar vintage vehicles I found the coolant sensor no longer worked when I ran Xeorex AF years ago [not sure of the formulation of that] and also when using straight water plus "water wetter" on HP vehicles here in FL
[BTW Ive seen it disparaged here but found nothing cooled better in testing. It provides no anti freeze effect but works here]

I wouldnt run that combo in the GMC for several reasons. However I ask because Im not sure If Dexcool or envirocool or any of the other formulations out there would effect it.

NO!
The sensor is only for coolant level. It will not detect the percentage of glycol. It is only a probe that lights a bulb when the liquid level falls below the position of the probe. It doesn’t care what the liquid is.

If you RTFM, you will find the appropriate coolant for the GMC. Ethelyne
Glycol mixed 50-50 with distilled water in hard water areas like a lot of
the USA. I would not stray very far from those recommendations. Listen to
Emery. He spent a good portion of his working career as a Chemical Engineer
working for a HUGE manufacturer of anti-freeze and like products. "Wetter
water? " probably not a great idea. But like everything else, it IS your
money, spend it how you see fit.

Yup. Although the adjective changes, depending upon sensitivity of parties
