This morning I left the 23 in the Baltimore harbor, for the trip to
Europe. Let's see how long it takes.
There is a problem with it. It sounds like a dying Harley Davdidson
without an exhaust.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get the sound recorded, will do so if
need be in Europe. But maybe someone has an idea as to what could cause
the symptom.

Is there anything special about that doughnut that I should look for?..
Not really. Should be in stock most places but if not, they should be able to get it from the local warehouse. I had 3-4 in my Eleganza when it left for Wisconsin with the new owner.
Just ask for an exhaust doughnut for a 73 455 Olds Toronado.

Oh, be advised that the studs may break when you try to get the nuts off. Penetrating oil helps but if the nuts have been there a while, don't be surprised if they break. If they do, you may have to drill them out and re-tap the holes in the manifold. I'm not sure if yours has little springs that supposedly keep the proper tightness. If so, you can get them too, they've probably collapsed from the heat. A lot of people don't use them.

So I better get to Napa today before my plane departs, as the guy at the
car shop in Germany will look at me like I'd be the weatherman talking
about the Toronado... :-)

Peer,
The exhaust pipes are held into the exhaust manifold with a stud and spring:
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NDP6001185
Unfortunately this part number will not work with the Toronado, however, they are available as I bought some, however they are in
Houston and I can't go get the part numbers off the packagers for you as I don't get there until Monday afternoon.

Thanks Chuck. Should I get some bolts as well, in case they break? If
yes, do you have a NAPA link for those as well?

Good luck finding those exhaust doughnuts locally. Usually it seems they have to order them in.
You could be dealing with the bad daughnuts,
Or an exhaust
Manifold leak.
Or worse, cracked or bad manifold. Get it fixed when you can, some leaks are no biggy, the next one will melt something you dont want it to.

Rob,
Happy Birthday. I presume the word from John S. is good so that it hasn't
already spoiled your birthday? Hope he's all OK as well as Y'All's Stuff.

I am confused as well. I am looking for a way to fix the loud Harley
sound. It was assumed at the beginning of this threat that it is the
donut. If it is that donut, can you find it on the german page? I am not
sure, hence me posting the link to the list of gaskets.

Peer,
If you looking for the what is called the “Donut” that is the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the down pipe. They are also called “Exhaust Pipe Flange Ring” and “Exhaust Flange Gaskets”.
The Cast Iron Manifolds use a part number:
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/FPB60241
Someone had already posted this and what you need.
The headers use a part number:
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/FPB60584
The catalog section that you showed does not reference this type of gasket
If you're looking for the gasket set between the manifold and the head, then that is a different number.

I just re-checked the German page you posted and there are no pictures of it.
