Saw this on RVTravel.com and it brought a smile and chuckle to me. Rolling Eyes

A man and his wife were driving their RV across Florida and were nearing a town spelled Kissimmee. They noted the strange spelling and tried to figure out how to pronounce it -- KISS-a-me, kiss-A-me, kiss-a-ME. They grew more perplexed as they drove into the town. Since they were hungry, they pulled into a place to get something to eat. At the counter the man said to the waitress, "My wife and I can't figure out how to pronounce this place. Will you tell me where we are and say it very slowly so that I can understand?" The waitress looked at him and said, "Buuurrrgerrr Kiiinnnnng."

An old, old joke. I first heard it as an Aggie joke where the town was
Mexia, Texas (halfway from College Station to Dallas) and the restaurant
was Daaaaiiiiireeee Queeeeen.

How did Mexia, which would be pronounced meh-hee-uh in Spanish become muh-hay-uh?

Standard Texas gringo-mouth--the same that makes "Manchaca" sound like
"man-chack" and "Llano"--"yah-no"--sound like "land-o" without the "d".

Try the Southeast for fun pronunciation: all-BENNY (Albany GA) HOUSE-ton (Houston County GA) say-REE (Sayre AL) A-rab (Arab AL) are the ones which come to mind immediately. There are way more.
