G'day,

If anybody is looking for a torsion bar unloading tool do a search on eBay for it, I found they are available for less than TWENTY
BUCKS!

However, I have NO IDEA if they're any good.

They sure Vary in price. Anywhere from $18.22 all the way up to $222.66, just on the first page!

I own the blue OTC brand, it had held up well, adjusting original Torsion Bars, and replacement Huber Torsion Bars. Key is to keep it well lubed.

You can borrow one for free at auto zone same one that is used on the 1ton Chevy front end torsion bars

We Are particular as to the tools we use in our shop.
We use Jim Hupy's Unloader tool and also sell them on our web site.
We were selling ones from another tha kept striping.

The tool Jim sells, made by Jim Hupy, is a REAL tool I highly recommend. I've tried a couple others and they don't compare. After doing more than a dozen bar removals in the last two years I wouldn't be without one. Hal

G'day,

I made a couple of tools like Jim's here in Sydney (so I could work on both sides at the same time).

However, I modified it slightly. I bored a 3/8" hole in the end of the bolt then tapered it down and installed a 3/8" OD ball
bearing in the end. Why you ask, because as Dave Lenzi noted they are harder than the hinges of hell.

Rob, one thing that differs on the TB tools that I make is, that they come
with a ball bearing on the end, and the end threads turned off ( not easy,
those are hardened bolts) . Also, the cross bar is tool steel, and the arch
is 4130 steel. Tough stuff. All my tools can be identified by a upper case
H stamped into the end of the cross bar for i.d. purposes. Just what I do.

Jim,

I must apologize!

When I looked at your tool on Jim K's website I saw the rounded end of the bolt and thought you had turned the end to that shape.
This time I enlarged the photo and I can see that it has a ball bearing on the end.

Jim also makes a GREAT brake bleeder:

This tool turns a PITA job into a piece of cake! For $75.00 one person can bleed the brakes in a GMC in 15 - 20 minutes.

More importantly you can flush the brake fluid every couple of years for the price of a couple of quarts of brake fluid preventing
corrosion problems and expensive repairs.
