Greetings everyone - Ty Hardiman here. After a decade of thinking about it, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a TZE.
To be a little more specific, this winter I convinced an old high school friend of mine to purchase a TZE, which has always been my dream coach. And to return the favor, he has now convinced me to do the same. So thanks, Aaron - I guess I just needed a little push to leave the Roadtrek lifestyle behind and upgrade to the GMC. Now my birth year, my boat, my BMW motorcycles, and my coach are aligned into the same decade. Who says nothing good came out of the 1970's?
I want to give respect, thanks, and props to everyone who helped me make my decision, even if they didn't know it:
-GMCMI had great timing with their Oklahoma rally this spring. Many generous people there allowed me to tour their coaches and show me the possibilities. Kim Weeks and many others put together a great event.
-The Tulsa Lunch Bunch & GMC Classics
-John Shotwell & the GMC registry
-Travao, Bounds, and Kanomata
-All the forum contributors who have helped me learn so much in the past few years including Ken Henderson, Matt Colie, Emery Stora, Bob Dunahugh, James Hupy, Mac MacDonald, Robert Mueller, Ken Burton, Kerry Pinkerton, Johnny Bridges, and so many others whose wisdom is preserved for the ages. I enjoyed meeting several of you in Shawnee this year and look forward to our next meet, hopefully at GMCMI Elkhart this fall.
-Billy Massey, the bdub website, and the Facebook GMC Motorhome Marketplace group.
-Everyone else who is out there supporting fellow GMCers as we criss-cross the blue marble.
I have joined GMCMI, updated the GMC registry, started my logbook, posted my sigfile, and embarked on the "First 10 things" list I made at the GMCMI Shawnee Q&A session. When using the forums I promise to "search first, ask second".
My "new" 1977 Kingsley won't be the last coach I buy in my lifetime, but I'm pretty sure they're going to be TZEs to the end.

Welcome! You couldn't find a better group of folks to be around. That we all have really good taste in motorhomes is a bonus.

Ty,
Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum...
You have done two good things right in a row.
You found us here. And
You created a great sigfile. This will be good for all of us.
Now if you next major excursion is going to be from Norman to Elkhart, you best be ready. If you can team drive, it is still two days. (And, we were pretty much shot when we did that.) Don't try to push yourself too much. Fortunately, we find our coach to be very comfortable both driving in the front and sleeping in the back (underway). One thing you should surely do is start planning now. When you get set on a route, tell us and you may get some help. On more than a few occasions we have found a friendly driveway to overnight or even several days in. We can also possibly advise of stops you might make. As an example, you might be coming by Springfield IL, and if so, you should plan the stop for the Lincoln Library. That is just the beginning. You know from owning the Roadtrek what a great freedom a motorhome can be, well now you have a few thousand new old friends that will be of inestimable value.
As it seems that you have already met enough of the community to understand that we get great satisfaction out of helping other owners. New owners are an important part of the organization. Do not ever be afraid to ask a question or for help. When/if we meet at Elkhart, and you want to hear stories of the community helping others, be ready..... There are lots and all told with pride - From Both Sides.
If you have been reading long, you know that I have a special way of welcoming new owners. It is a "Cultural Appropriation" from my world of watermen that I feel fits very well here to be passed to a new owner. So,
May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome to the insane asylum. Be aware you are not an owner, but a caretaker of a revolutionary piece of technology. Know that there are resources beyond your wildest dreams available instantly. Just ask. Spend a few weeks worth of evenings on the web discovering just how revolutionary your coach really is. As you continue your adventure, you will find that the artists who created your coach did things right.
I thought I did thorough research, then I discovered on our 75 Eleganza, Everything was primered inside and out with zinc chromate, Cabinetry constructed like furniture, full dimensional wood, dovetailed drawers, branded "Custom Built by GMC Coach".... Who brands drawers in an RV? Those artists in Pontiac Michigan. When you close the door and you can hear that solid sound of a GM constructed door closing, you know it was completely designed.
You do want to do some upgrades. My list includes a Manny's Tranny's 1 ton front end mod, that gave me larger brakes, and bearing cartridges good a very long time. Next thing on my list is disk brakes for the back. The brakes on the TZE are overworked. Having disk brakes will make the necessary inspection possible without removing the drums.

Welcome to the madness. I have only made one trip in our GMC (long story) so I am still learning and soaking up info as well. Like you this group and the awesome support available were major factors in my purchasing decision. Enjoy the ride and the memory making.

Welcome Ty, from another "newbie".
This is a great group of people on this forum for information and assistance with the GMC. Now that you have one, join your local GMC club and attend as many rallies as you can. You'll learn even more in person than online. My advice for you is to use the GMC frequently. Keep it on the road. It is happiest when rolling down the road, and not sitting in storage. Take it for a drive even when you don't have a trip planned. We've had ours since Aug. 2016, and have enjoyed five successful camping trips so far. We're not retired yet, (but not as young as you), so our trips are mostly long weekend trips. Enjoy it. Pick a good name for the GMC. He or she is part of the family now.
Also, post photos of your coach on the GMC photo site. This site is another great resource for us GMC caretakers. They say "a picture is worth a thousand words". Here are a few pics of our coach, and adventures: http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/u42530-russellkeith.html
