Ok, got some steel wool and some time this sfternoon. So where do I place this steel wool to keep those little turds from getting in? Or am I fighting a fools battle?

The trick unfortunately is finding the entry hole(s) where the little buggers are getting in.

Some places are easy to find and some are very hard to get to.. Then there are the ones you don't know about.

Easiest to get to are holes in the floor outboard of the frame rails. Penetrations for pipes, heater loops, water drains. Raise the rear as high as you can and block it up. Never stick any part of you under a GMC, especially in the rear, without blocking the frame. Easiest place is under the bogies. Let some air out so there is load on the blocking. You don't want it to kick out so load it. Go around the coach and stuff the steel wool in any opening you can find. Besides penetrations look for gaps where body panels meet other body parts or the floor. Also check around the wheel wells. Although any gaps there would be better served by using caulk. In the top of the wheel wells are some drains that need to be checked. On the drivers side is a drain from the electrical hatch. Make sure the drain tube there is in place and clear of obstructions. On the pass wheel well are two drains for the water heate. One for the water heater drain and one for the over temp/pressure vent. Do not think a hole is too small for a mouse. If you see it they can get trrough it.

Next are the floor penetrations to the black tank. First is where the sink drain goes into the black tank. It is located in the bottom of the closet module behind a slanted panel. The panel is easy to remove, just a few screws. You can see where the pipe goes through a hole that is larger than the pipe. Next is the bath sink & shower drain this is accessed through a panel on the back outside of the shower module. The third one is the hole where the toilet connects to the balck tank. To get at this one the toilet must be removed. That should be enough to get you started..

I run on the theory that I will never be able to find all the entrance points. So I do everything I can to get the mice before they can get to the coach. I have bait blocks around the barn and along mouse runways in the barn. Outside I have bait blocks in mouse feeders that are constructed to.prevent critters other from mice from getting at the poison. Thus, hopefully my property and barn are mouse black holes.

I understand they are nocturnal and don't like light. If a person were to put some LED rope lights under the coach, that SHOULD keep the little critters away.

I haven't worried about mice for about 10 years or so . Bought a couple of those little ultra sonic plug ins and always have one running whenever I'm parked.
Have not seen a mouse or any little droppings since. Even quit carrying traps as they just aren't around any more.

I see droppings sometimes in the out buildings at home... boom ! another high fequency noise maker or two ..and they're not there any more

Just a thought that might work for you.

Best to ask someone you know which one they have and if it works as they do not all do the job. Sorry the ARK is presently 9 hours away from me at home so can't tell you the make I have

Cheers,

Richard and the ARK

I can wright a novel on that subject. Our 78 Royale Mouse House sat between a corn field, and a machine shed in Iowa. From Oct 1995 to Oct of 2015. I PACKED. And I mean PACKED 5 large black garbage bags FULL of mouse nest. REALLY. Mice seem to be into football. As I found a huge number of their football everywhere. I had to wear a complete haze mat out fit to gut the interior to the bare walls. Disinfect, ionize, and spray a coat of urethane on any hard surface that was going back in. Used my 3000 PSI power washer to the walls, and floor. Then ionize, and urethane. Pulled ALL 12, and 110 volt wiring out. In doing all this. I found a huge number of places the mice got in. Rebuilt/replace everything inside, and out. And in the process. I cleaned, and painted the entire GMC bottom. Then drove it to the June of 2016 GMCMI Rally. It took 9 months to get us back on the road. And about $35,000 in parts, and material. I got a real deal on the labor. As I got my labor for FREE. And Linda, and I are in heaven with it. One mouse is only the tip of the iceberg. There is always more than one.
She is usually back in the nest giving birth. 4 - 6 is the normal litter. 3
to 4 times a year. And newborns are fertile within 6 months. DO THE MATH.
CRAZY STUFF, THIS MOUSE PROCREATION. Think global.

G'Day, Richard
Sure would appreciate a repeat of this email with the brand and model,
when you are re-united with the Ark. I know a few people who have tried
the ultrasonic gizmos, and none of them have worked more than a couple of
weeks, if that long. Those little varmints seem to get used to the
noise, and ignore it.
I have 2 in my attic and a pack rat moved in. Got rid of him with a live
trap, but then one of his younger kin took up residence. Trapped and
relocated that one, then solved the problem with a 30 ft string of clear
LED Christmas lights, on all the time. Pack rats (bushy-tailed wood
rats) are truly nocturnal. I think the mice are still around.

We had a Maine Coon boy who was a terror on mice. Fortunately before he passed at 15 he taught the Tuxedo girl the fun of mousing.

Better yet is the neighbors barn cats. We see four different cats around our place. Most likely from the three neighbors. I suspect they come over here because, after mice eat the "mouse food", we have slow mice.

Great information. I've plugged all the holes you mention around the GMC. Have not gotton all under it to look yet because of the none stop rain these past days, but will here when it dries up a bit. I am also storeing it out by a corn field so I'm sure we all are safe haven for these little buggers during winter storage. But this does mean I have no electricity for led lights or sonic deterents. So is either good old fashion mouse traps, (don't use because of potential stench), or my pepermint oil/water mixture. Does kinda keep them away and smells like Christmas all the time in there. But now we are camping with it we are hoping that we won't so many turds to clean up. I'll check under the coach here when it gets drier. Thanks all!

On the GMC forum there was a good discussion on this subject and the bucket of antifreeze, rotating bait trap seemed to work well with the benefit the bodies get pickled rather start to smell. Only good inside rv or other secure area as the antifreeze is poisonous and attractive to pets/kids.
