Good day,

I'm considering these two Zantrex inverters for use in my GMC. Mostly for TV, coffee, microwave among a few more uses. The units are the ProWatt 2000 and the Freedom 2012, both are pure sine wave and 2000 watt.

Any personal experience with these models and which would you recommend?

Any additional information you care to offer regarding other models is also appreciated.

Have a nice weekend,
Mike

If you have the choice the Freedom 2000 is a better unit. The Prowatt is/was built in China and they tended to have issues.
You'd better have a good sized battery bank if you plan on using one for a microwave though. They are real energy hogs...

The Freedom is an inverter/charger that will charge your batteries.

The Prowatt is just an inverter with features like ignition lockout.

I have the Prosine 2000 in my coach and it's terrific.

It's been 10+ years since I used either of those inverters, but I'd
unhesitatingly choose the Heart. Even though it probably costs more (being
an automatic switching inverter/converter/charger IIRC).

I second that Hal. The Magnum guys came over from Trace who were bought out and merged to create Xantrex. A good friend has been handling inverters for 25 years (he builds generators, WRICO Int.) and he swears by the Magnum line, fewer combacks than any other he carries. Of course a Magnum wasn't even asked about, just a little thread drift I guess.

Thanks Ken, which unit are you referring to as the Heart?
Thanks,
Mike

Sorry, Mike, I automatically associate the "Freedom" with the Heart, which
I believe was the predecessor before it became part of Xantrex. The Heart
1000 and Heart 2000 once dominated the market.

If I were concerned with build quality, I'd shine the chinee one on in favor of the US built. If I were concerned with output, I'd load both up to the rated load and have a look at the wavefore with a 'scope; and meter the current draw at max output. For my purposes, I've a cheap 150 Watt no-name unit that produces a step square wave. It runs the soldering equipment and the occasional wall - wart.
