I pulled the inner fenders on our coach to replace the exhaust gaskets. (Right side blew out) Simple enough to do. Decided to do a detailed cleaning and inspection while the manifolds were off and the block was easy to get to.
I've mentioned before that as far as I can tell we are the third owners of our coach. Some of the PO work was very well done and some was really shoddy.
At some point the engine has been apart and out but I don't know what was done or when. Which brings me to the latest discovery. There are 2- 7/16 bolts which connect the top of the trans to the rear motor mount. Doing a visual, I noticed a gap between the drivers side trans flange and the mount. The bolt was sticking through the trans flange from the front. No problem, I'll just grab the bolt then realign the holes and put a nut on it. But, the bolt won't move. Okay it's wedged against the web. Up to the inside with an assortment of pry bars.
Standing on my head... No luck.
Guess what... the trans flange is threaded. Why would someone thread a bolt in backwards?
1 1/2 hour after I started, I've got the bolt in correctly and tightened. That is a trick in itself as you can't or, at least, I can't get both hands back in there to get any leverage.
I love my GMC.
Edit to add: I would have taken pictures but thought it was a nothing deal.

Jerry,
The reason the bolt was in backward is probably because it's so hard to put
in correctly.
There should be 3 bolts holding the bellhousing to the rear motor mount:
two on the passenger's side and the one you refer to on the driver's
side. That one on the driver's side, as you've learned, is a real bear to
install. Manny uses a air ratchet effectively there. I can't do as well,
so I drill a 1-1/2" hole in the upper step riser in line with that bolt,
making it easy to use a socket and extension. An aluminum cover screwed on
under the carpet seals the hole afterward.

Jerry,
I have no trouble with R&R of the two bolts on the passenger's side, only
that one on the driver's side.

Mike,
I've been reluctant to provide such dimensions because of the variation in
vehicles. For example, it would appear that a lateral measurement from the
seat base would be easy -- but my seat bases are custom & bear little
resemblance to OEM.
My suggestion would be to use a square and sight down to line up with the
subject bolt, then down to immediately below the top aluminum frame. My
hole, drilled from the engine compartment with the drivetrain removed,
actually cuts 1/4" or so into the lower edge of that aluminum angle.
I don't suggest drilling through the carpet, especially since the hole saw
is almost certain to hang and pull fibers. I lifted the carpet temporarily
so there's no sign of the access hole when not in use. I suppose one could
make it a dual-purpose hole by installing a fire extinguisher port -- but
it's not a ideal location for that.

Ken,
IIRC, I measured the location of the bracket bolt holes in relation to the
upper
left trans mounting bolt on a spare trans. Then, in the coach, I used a
couple
of tri-squares and a plumb bob to locate the bolt location on the step
riser.
I used a hole saw to get access to the bolts and got the appropriate size of
wood dowel at Home Despot to make plugs for the holes. Putting a small
wood screw in the center of the plug allowed me to remove it with the little
tool used to remove door trim panels. The toughest part was getting the
factory carpet out of the way. Man, they used a lot of staples in there.
Honesty forces me to admit that with my usual self-confidant style of
"measure once, cut twice", I ended up with four plugs in the step. Oh well!
If you read your own drawing instead of depending on memory, darn it!
