Ok, after quitting working for the Feds and moving from MS to Florida, I
have FINALLY stabilized enough that I can justify working on my coaches
again.
I have somehow lost the keys to BOTH coaches (as well as the gate to the
storage yard!) in the move. Rumor has it that door and ignition keys can be
cut by a good locksmith without needing to replace them.
The aluminum wheels need swapped around from the Royale to the Palm Beach.
The Palm Beach needs the fuel tanks reinstalled.
I can try to take some time off work, but some extra hands who know what
they're doing would be a big help. :) Goal is to get these to Florida. I
met a guy at Dothan who indicated interest in the Royale and may be willing
to assist, but I've lost his contact info. :)

Re-keying that vintage lock is not difficult. On the door lock remove one of them and take it to almost any locksmith.
OR.. Get a new pair from Autozone Part # DL15250 (that is 2 keys and 2 locks in the set) It is around $16.00.
On the ignition switch, which is a different key than the door, remove the tumbler assembly from the steering column and get a new one with keys from Autozone. (Part# LC14260 or LC14290) Most of them are worn anyway. The price is $18.99 or $15.39.
AZ will loan you a steering wheel puller for free. The last one that I installed, I replaced the ignition one in the AZ parking lot with their puller.

You also need the steering lock depressor tool and some small flat blades to remove the lock ring and depress the cylinder pin. As well as philips and the wheel nut socket long extension and ratchet.

steering wheel puller(you can rent one, harbor freight, ect). I have a very cheapo one and has always worked.

there is a spring plate that needs to be pushed down, and there is a tool for that:

again a very common tool. You can get by without it by prying and pushing, but that compressor makes it simple.
I am not sure I agree with that all locks are the same. I tried swapping my ignition cylinder out with a chevy suburban and i think maybe a GMC Jimmy lock a couple times. They sure look the same, but there was some difference, I can't remember what. I ended up having a locksmith do a key up, and kicked myself for how easy that was and the time I wasted taking the suburban cylinders out of the vehicles.
again as the facebook post showed, search that coach over, there always seems to be a key hidden somewhere in the past 40 years.

I may be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure the glove box lock is the same as the entry door lock and the electric hook-up lock, and is easy to remove. Some of those even have a lock code on them. That would help only if you can get into the coach.

If it was me, I'd run it home on a boat tank so I could take mt time reinstalling the gas tanks. And if that's the set of tires I gave you, I don't think I'd try for Jacksonville on them.

A locksmith can make a key for the lock after it is removed and delivered to him. Any GM mechanic familiar with vehicles of this era can remove the lock.
Like I said before I removed and replaced mine in the parking lot at AutoZone.
It takes about 5 minutes with the proper tools to remove the steering column lock. You will need the two tools borrowed from AZ in the same kit. You will also need a set of 3/8" deep well sockets and a couple of screw drivers.
I still recommend that you just replace the cylinder(s) rather than re-key them. I just checked and new door cylinders are in stock at my local AutoZone. They are very common GM parts.

My son had his car stolen, when it ran out of gas it was abandoned and
towed to the police lock up lot. He was notified through the registration
to come get it. Of course he had only one set of keys and they were in the
car when stolen but not in the ignition when towed. We were give the
number of a locksmith through the impound yard and was told we had 10
minutes to get the vehicle out. Locksmith showed up in a Safari van with
his tools in the back and was able to make a key in two tries at a cost of
$50.

I can get my door unlocked using a long squiggle pick or one of the long upholstery (trim) pin (plastic push-in fasteners)removal tools from Harbor Freight by going in through the fridge access door and slipping the tool between the cabinet and the vehicle body and lifting the lock knob.
