I ordered an APC and went to install it, only to realize that there was one in place! So I installed the new shiny one, and the old one is available. It's a simple solid state device, so the fact that this unit has a few years of service on it should make no difference. That is one item, I am not sure it is worth your time to build. A $20 check to Eugene, and you will probably have one by the end of the week. Yeah, parts are probably a few bucks, but you will spend some gas driving to get them.

Jim Bounds also has a circuit diagram for a fix as well out there. I see it is in his member pages, and I am not going to hunt down my password right now, but I would guess a call or email to him and he will share the info.
