I would like to add an aux evaporator, however, I am limited in width due to the old style glove box and the level controllers. I noticed (from the photo site) the later models had a fixed lower panel and an upper hinged door. This would allow the use of a wider evaporator, and not interfere with existing glove box.

Has anyone ever "upgraded" to the newer style, is it even possible without major modification?

I assume you have this style.

My early 73 would have had the first style but it now has the second style.

From what I have read, some coaches had the glove box refitted in the field, a recall of sorts. That is said to be why many of us have no glove box sticker.

So -- I would think retro fitting yours should not be a major challenge, once you locate the parts.

Sean,

My coach was built with the early glove compartment shown above, but was re-fit with the later version (still different than the 78 out back). Given what you are considering, unless you get the rear suspension controls moved, it is difficult to do much with the space beside either one. I suspect that this may have been part of the inducement to go to Electrolevel and relocate the controls.

I used the space toward midship for the cruise control box (Dana c'74) and the space to the outboard for the inverter that powers the reefer.

The photo is from Bill Bryant's album of 1973 production changes. Your coach may be in some of the other photos as well.

Greetings -

I'm reviving an old thread since I have exactly the same issue...

Might anyone have one sitting around - or might anyone know of a Southern California located parts coach ??

I'm looking for the newer style glove box.

As always, THANK YOU for the wealth of information stored here.

Sean, guess I've been found out :^)

Took the picture before you purchased your coach, was always looking for nice original coaches back then to document changes.
