Netters
Had a call from a guy who says he has just removed a Pontiac 403 engine
...and did I want to buy it ?
What did Pontiac put a 403 in as I thought they were only 400 people and if
that is the case, aside from the intake and oil pan, would a Pontiac 403
bolt to the 425 ?
I'm pulling a blank on this one...help!

Supposedly, both Buick and Pontiac used the Oldsmobile produces 403 CID engine at times. So, it should be the same basic unit as what was used in late GMC motorghomes. As bDub points out though what's hung on it is likely very different from what's in a coach. If you could find a lunched 403 out of a GMC to steal parts and brackets, it might be a worthwhile thing. I think I'd rather find a good core and build a 455 though.

Please someone make me an offer for this beautiful 403 sitting in my garage instead of pulling somebody's coach around. It has all the brackets, will bolt right in, comes with a warranty and did I mention it looks real good?
Listed on the Swap meet at my cost - make me an offer!

Uh, this is a Joe Mondello motor, or a build from Mondello Performance on the Left Coast? There's a difference. There's also a bunch of stuff that would be real nice in a 442 or a TransAM, but which is kinda overkill for a coach. Find someone who lunched the mill in his Hurst/Olds 442 and do binniss with him.

As indicated in the Swap Meet post it is Mondello Performance. As you know we lost Joe a few years ago so there really is no such thing anymore as a Joe Mondello engine. That said, this engine was built, run under 1000 miles, went back to Paso Robles and had the top end redone, then to my garage. It is built specifically for the GMCMH, but if I cannot find a home for it in the community I will either by another MH in need of an engine, or find a '78-79 TransAM project. It's killing me to have it just sitting.

Olds made the only GM "403". It was only produced from '77-'79 and was installed in numerous California emission vehicles. In the rest of the country it was commonly found in Buick Park Avenues, olds 98 and Toronado, but most commonly in '79 Trans Ams. Nearly 100k Trans Ams were made with 403s. Intake, exhaust and oil pan and accessory mounting is about the only difference to the MH version.
And yes it will bolt up to a THM425

A huge number of Olds 403s went into 2nd gen Trans Ams. The hood would say 6.6 Litre. The ones that got Pontiac 400s said T/A 6.6. They are both good. The Olds had a milder emissions cam and hence the Pontiac is sought out.
