I'm trying to get a part shipped from Tampa, Florida to Red Bluff, California.

Just guessing that the box is about 24x24x18 and may weigh 10 lbs.

The seller got a quote of $308. Which is more than 6 times the price of the part.

Any suggestions on how to get the item to Cal at a reasonable cost?

Thanks

If it only weighs 10 lbs that ought to able to be shipped via UPS for way less than 300 bucks.

Check Greyhound. I used it to ship a large package coast to coast and it got there in 5 days. The only drawback is it's station to station, not door to door.

Or... http://www.busfreighter.com/ I haven't used them but it looks interesting for large packages.

I know some who use uShip, but have no personal experience. It seems more for large items.

Anyone use the Roadie app? Great buzz when it was released but I've not heard much about it since.

that seems odd, because that weight and size, should be under the "oversize" limits of most of the common shippers. I typed it into USPS for ground and it came up as $55?

It is possibly going to a place that packages and ships. have seen places like that will charge hundreds for boxing something up.

Mike is correct, just go to your nearest USPS and ship USPS ground cheapest way possible!

I can have our UPS people swing over and pick it up under our account and
have it delivered to you.
This is their way of picking up extra funds from you if your a dummy.

Gene,

If there are terminals at both ends, try Greyhound. They were always
cheaper,
but it's terminal to terminal. If the recipient is willing to go pick it
up, it will
usually save a bunch.

The size & dimensions are the killers here!

Use Greyhound terminal-to-terminal.

Only if Greyhound can beat $56. USPS ground from his source in FL and destination in CA is $55.78 for a 10 pound package 24" X 24" X 18".

You can calculate the shipping by Greyhound here: https://shipbybus.com/shipgreyhound/instant-quote/
I would do it out of curiosity but don't know the zip-codes.

I don't know about Red Bluff, but where I live, the nearest Greyhound station is 50 miles away. I would pay the 86 cents to get it delivered to my door (which my mail carrier will do). And if I had to pick it up at the post office, that is only 12 miles away.

I understand completely. I had to ship a set of moose antlers from Cal to a VA hunting lodge. Because of the size and weight Greyhound was less than half the price of other shippers. The lodge was happy to travel 40 miles to the station and it only took 5 days to arrive.

I don't think the supplier is willing to run down to the depot and spend 20
minutes there for a customer.
He is trying to make extra by overcharging on UPS charges.
I'm sure if I have John C here get on the computer the charges will be mor
like 50.

These shipping companies have learned a lesson from the banks. They now have all kinds of add on fees and try to add them where ever possible. We are shipping 20 windshields to the GMCMI Mansfield rally. I asked the trucking company for a Monday delivery so I could have a fork truck and people standing by to take them off of the truck. They said "We can do that for an extra $75.00. It is called an appointment." So then I said OK I'll take them any day you want to deliver them because we do not need them until the following Saturday. So I said "Please telephone us and let us know when you will arrive." The response was "We can to do for an additional $30.00 to make the phone call." I was further informed the if the truck was to show up and we were not standing there ready to unload, he would leave and we would be charged an additional $75.00 for him to come back again at another unscheduled time.
