Ken,

Last April (2015) I had my left knee replaced and it works great! Anyone that is suffering I suggest you have it done with one
caveat; ask around in your area to find the surgeon with the "best" results.

My right hip began playing up just before I flew over to the USA this March. I went to the sports medicine clinic down the road from
me and spoke with an Osteopath there. After an X-ray and MRI he felt it was inflammation of the joint and prescribed a cortisone
shot and anti-inflammation tablets. After receiving the shot and taking the tablets for a few days I seemed to be on the mend so I
decided to make the trip March - August; unfortunately over that period the hip got progressively worse.

The right hip was replaced last Saturday (9/3), I was moved to the re-hab hospital on Thursday (9/8); and will be here until Sunday
(9/18).

Things are going OK but I am suffering from much more pain than the knee which is affecting my ability to do the physio! Hopefully I
will come good and am fit enough to be sent home on Sunday.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,

Gute Besserung - and a short story from my lower back surgery:

After the surgery, I told the professor that it hurts to lay on the left
side, where they operated to take out some bone stuff for the vertebrae
fusion, and if he could move my bed more to the left, so I wouldn't have
to lay on that side to watch TV. What did he tell the nurse? Please move
the be more to the right, so that he will not try to circumvent the
pain. I wasn't happy at that point in time, but after a few more days
things were okay again.

Moral of the story: Hang in and the pain will go away!

Rob,

Wishing you a good recovery!!
Oké the crawling under, up and above the GMC is not yet possible, but with some help of my (american or australian) colleagues (I am a retired Fysical Therapist) you will be up and running in no time, they even have to slow you down perhaps.
Just curious, are you in an australian or american hospital?

With some of that extra metal you will be happy after a few weeks, you did it.
I had patients, 80+, who had two hip churgery and were "running" again.
Most important in those cases is, not to wait too long.

And I presume, you receive GMC ....... Great Medical Care Laughing Laughing

Hangin there.

Bye, Daniel

Ken,

I confuse them as well. In fact I am scheduled to have the right knee replaced on November 4th (I think), however, I want to see how
much the hip helps the right leg overall before I go ahead with the knee.

Need to clarify one point; I am heavily doped up so when I am sitting at the PC or watching TV I'm fine. It's only when the physios
get stuck into me I have a problem with pain. I have been able to "push through the pain" and do all they want me to do but it has
been a struggle.

On the lighter side I've noted that my right leg is now running a bit of "toe in" whereas before the operation it was 0! ;-)

Laughing Laughing ....
I remembered the time I served in the Dutch army, Medical corps, for a few years, as an FT.
It was about the time the first GMC hit the road .... so long ago.

Working at the REHAB Centre in Doorn, we had patients from all over the country, all militairy men and women.
Some civil personel too. But mostly militairy, from all rangs and ages.

Nearby the REHAB centre was the training centre for the dutch Marines ...
One day a Sergeant Major came in for his injured shoulder ...
He told me, he expected to be up and running in no time, they had a big military exercise in three weeks ...
Oké ... I said, you will be, but ...

Afterwards he was happy with his full recovery, but also, I was worse then his old instructor, as he was in his twenties and attended the training center himselff as an rookie Very Happy

We FT's aren't that way always, but when it's necessary we had to be. Otherwise your patient would suffer even more.

Keep it up. But also tell them when you have to pause and when you can go on.

I often wondered how the get the caster, camber and toe (toes) pointed correctly when the 'vehicle' is lying recumbant without weight on the system and the ride height correct. And we know you can't tighten the control arm bolts while in the air. Get better as quickly as possible Rob.

Rob

Is Vegemite an important ingredient in your hospital diet?

Speedy recovery!

Best regards,
Dennis

Regards,
Rob M.
