not for my GMC,
I have some old van tires with a 380 date code.
"In the year 2000, the serial number went to an 11-digit number allowing for a four digit serial week code to identify new decade"
So that "0" should not be 2000, is it 1990? or ?
Thanks

I would consider it a 1990 as the four digit date code started in 2000 as you said. The present DOT TIN format came about I'm guessing in the mid to late '80s as I was in the tire business back then. The four digit date code started as you quoted in 2000. Prior to the now familiar DOT TIN format, many tire mfrs had their own pretty much non-standardized system of date coding tires. I've read that it went back as early as '67 and I would imagine even before that - it would only seem reasonable that they would have to to keep track of production screw-ups and recall reasons.

my 26' has 16" Transforce tires with a weird date code. Anyone know how it's to be deciphered? The Firestone site is sort of confusing (nothing new there)

Well, I messed up. Coach has Radial T/As from goodrich. Fronts are the old pair and show the most wear, DOT 2810, which would be Summer of 2010, six years this summer, and up for replacem, enmt this winter. However, the rears all have DOT BF1LJD51. WTF is that?
