Browsing the interior remodel photos on the GMC photo archive I found this
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g5253-dinning-area.html

This looks like a fabulous idea. What I removed from my coach was two chairs that were bolted onto wood bases (to increase height) and the bolts went through the floor to the underside.
These obviously are not bolted to the frame, only the top of the platform.

Is that OK to do?

My chairs are OEM or nearly OEM and VERY heavy. Are the newer flex steel chairs less heavy?
i want to put my chairs back in, but I would love to alter where they are a bit; and the idea of a platform seems nice...

another example, one i like more
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/interior-remodel-phase-i/p35163-almost-done.html
Seems like this is OK to do.
Maybe if you're going to use them as seat belted while driving you need to bolt to the chassis?

Kelly,
That is one way to add a folding table to that area of the coach. This is what I had in our first coach and it used the original table that I cut down:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/interior-restoration/p372.html
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/interior-restoration/p373.html
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/interior-restoration/p374.html

I included this last picture to show the area layout. Notice that the Factory seat on the steps has been narrowed about 11” and we have a rocker/reclinder/swivel on the other side. We had the rock made to fit and color match the rest of the interior, but today you can find the narrower chairs at the lazyboy stores and other.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/interior-restoration/p376.html

We are putting the same layout into the Avion on the passenger side also.

As for the stretch coach we are using now in came with two swivel chairs bolted to the floor which limited the use of the area. This is the layout that was redone with a new narrowed seat and recliner.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/1978-buskirk-stretch/p48919-g2-gmcmi-2013-386.html

The table is a much simpler layout and I can take some more pictures of how it goes together if you want .

Thanks Powerjon! It came with a fold in table that I'll reuse, I'm really curious about different chair mounting options. I thought it had to bolt to the floor but it looks like it can be bolted to wood that is then attached to the floor. My chairs were held in wiht 4" bolts that went to the undercarriage. If that's not required I'd love to change it.
these are nice renovations; it's so useful to see what others have done

my title isn't all the great. the layout now is two chairs and a fold out table. i'm really interested in how to mount the chairs when they go back in, what options do I have other than bolts through the chair base, through a wood spacer and to the undercarriage.

i see boxes, cabinets etc that the side chairs are mounted to (not the chassis) and I guess I'm wondering if there are any issues with that, safety wise

thank you

Kelly,
The chair does not have to be bolted to the floor. When you order a recliner/rocker/swivel chair just get it with the big round base. Typically it is just you and the wife. Nobody should be sitting in any location without a seat belt on. I will send you some pictures shortly.

Thank you Powerjon. it looks really comfy!
I love your table and the cup holders integrated into the wall side. We have the original table with the piano hinge (which is also a cool idea, sometimes you don't want a wide table.

I looked at recliners online, one issue I have that's unique is we goto music festivals and sometimes it's really cold or rainy outside so we move the jam inside. We can fit 7 people in to play in the GMC (upright bass standing by the sink). So that means that arm chairs don't work. A strange situation and hard to filter your searches that way on google. The chairs we have are perfect for this purpose- so I"m thinking I'll put them back in. Getting them reupholstered would be really cool, but I imagine that's really expensive (or maybe I can get a good cover for them).

At this point, I need to figure out if I want to put them back in exactly as I took them out (with the wood base bolted through the frame) or build a base for them that is larger and I bolt the chairs to the base.

They were installed on top of the carpeting, the carpet was smashed flat under them- since I'm putting in cork flooring; I'm not sure I'd want to bolt the chair on top of that. A larger base could spread the weight of the chair. i could also put flooring around them (and then make the base taller)

But, I like your table a lot- more than mine. And the sectional couch behind the passenger. Does that swivel?

Kelly,
On the sectional couch behind the passenger seat, it does not swivel, it still lays down though. I would advise not to bolt anything to the floor and it would lock in your layout. Building a base would be a better choice. The narrowing of the couch actually opens up the “living room” area of the coach.

This is an album of our first coach interior that we did a frame up restoration. Notice the table like yours, but cut down to not take up so much space that is not used. I will have other pictures that show how the table was mounted.
