The coach I'm interested has what looks like an upgrade water heater added in the late 90s

Anyone else got one and like/dislike them and are they reliable?

If it's a Birchaven or Royale coach, that's probably the original water
heater. It looks just like the one that's been working (almost) perfectly
in my X-Birchaven for 40 years now. The (almost) is that the green plastic
control knob broke making setting a bit difficult. I added a 120vac
heating element in the drain about 18 years ago so seldom light the burner.

I have a 78 Royale. It has that water heater. Still works well. I used it
this morning at the GMC Cascaders rally at the great American Steam up at
Antique Powerland in Brooks, Oregon. I clean the orifice once a year or so.
Electronic ignition still works well.

Pete, it sure would help if you'd create an album to hold your photos.

Pete,
That is a good choice, but let me advise you on fey issues.
Select the on that ignites by 12 volt, as the one pictured is not that
model, also get the one that has the 120V heating along with the engine
heat.
Consider which side of the coach you will mount, as mounting on the
passenger side is not wise as that is the side we sit around, so when it
lights up, it produces heat. Maybe not bad for winter month.
If you don't mind we like to quote you a delivered price on a unit, as we
are competitive and should you have any questions, we know enough to assist
you. You do not get that type of service from Camping World or others.

It can't be original as it has a sticker with 1997 on it....maybe a replacement of a similar unit.

Do you have pictures of the AC element addition? That sounds like useful upgrade.
