What screws held up the front end cap? I failed to bag and label mine, I thought they were pop rivets, but it looks like riv nuts on the body. I can't find any thread pattern that seems to work.

Simple question, but it's driving me nuts! Has anyone found a better way to attach the front end cap, not much of a fan of pop rivets.

I vaguely remember two wood screws holding up the mirror base, and of course the visor nuts.

Thanks,

Mine had a mix of large screws with finish washers, and then some large Pop Rivets. When I took the cap town I replaced everything with large rivets, so they all matched up. Just be careful as the rivet gun likes to walk a bit when you clamp down on it for the last time before snapping the stud. I nearly smashed the inside of the windshields.

Jim,
There should be 10 'riv nuts' in the top windshield frame for the front cap screws, 5 on a side. I believe they're #10, but don't remember if a 24 or a 32 thread.
I can take one out and let you know tomorrow morning if you want.

Thank you, and don't bother. It's starting to look like there was sheet metal screws into the riv nuts. I vaguely remember screws and pop rivets, and cannot get any thread pattern to match the riv nuts. I'll try your guess. I read where the pop rivets can cause the cracks especially without washers. I was going to use self tapping screws but was a little worried about going into fiberglass instead of metal. Looks like either some riv nuts popped out, or they used pop rivets in some spots for some reason.
