Good afternoon,
I tried to buy some Duracool, or like product from Bennet's Cycle in Tennesee. They returned my order saying they are going out of business. They also said the same about the manufacture of the product they sell HC 12a. I have found 2 others on Amazon, Enviro-Safe, and Red Tek. has anyone used or heard of them? the Enviro -Safe is relatively inexpensive at 12 cans for 50.95 and free shipping. the Red Tek 87.00

Duracool is a Canadian company, but if you goto their website (duracool.com) there is a button for USA customers to purchase it on-line.
I haven't heard anything about them going out of business.

I've had Enviro-Safe brand refrigerant in my GMC for years. Works great.

12 cans of Frosty Cool are $49.95

12 cans of Dura Cool are $102.00

Emery / JR,

Here's where I bought my last case of refrigerant for Double Trouble:

http://www.frostycool.com/

http://www.frostycool.com/frostycool-134-replacement-refrigerant-16-oz-equivalent-1-case-12x-cans/

I processed a mock order for a case shipped to Houston, the math was $49.95 for the Frosty Cool and 12.95 for shipping making a
total of $62.89 or $5.24 a can; two bucks per can less than Dura Cool.

Yes it's the same as Dura Cool.

I have not been in the local Duracool store in a couple of years. I use to get it for about $5.50 per can there (plus sales tax and no shipping). Dan Gregg was paying the same at the Duracool store in Sikeston, Mo. With the online prices up, I assume the store prices are also higher.

I put it in my Tracker, my Honda Civic, my Motorhome, and my Buick LeSabre. It worked fine in the first three, but did not work in my 2000 Buick. The Buick had a slow leak, leaking down to no cool over the winter. So I decided to try Duracool in the system. Installing it was not a problem. The problem came in after the install. I could not get the compressor to come on with less than 28lbs on the low side. At 29lbs or more the compressor would come on, but the air coming from the AC system was at best "cool" not "cold". so it would not keep the car comfortable in hot weather. Attempts to bleed off Duracool down to 20 lbs would disengage the compressor. Finally, I bled off the Duracool and put in 35lbs of R134, and the system blew Ice cold. It leads me to believe that the pressure sensor in GM cars of that era, have disengage pressures at 28lbs or lower...or maybe my pressure sensor is bad. Either way, the Buick is now blowing cold, so I'm leaving it. JWID

I really see no reason to put Duracool in a 134a vehicle the the CORRECT refrigerant is avalable everywhere at prices as low as $3.99 per can.

One reason is that it lowers the high (and low) side pressure, reducing the effort of the compressor, and increasing gas mileage. And it doesn't cause testicular cancer, or damage the environment as much as R-134a. Also, there are competitors keeping the price down, so DuPont isn't the monopoly raking in the dollars on HC-based hydrocarbons.

Do what's right for you.

They must have recently decided to go out of business. I ordered a case of Duracool from Bennet and received it about two weeks later, just last month.

Guess I'll be looking at alternatives myself. Frostycool looks like the best one.

Duracool IS NOT out of business.

Bennett Cycle is a company in Louisville, KT. It is a reseller. It has never manufactured any product.
Years ago it sold Duracool but in recent years it no longer sold Duracool but sold a similar product called HC1a. (Hydrocarbon 1a). This was a direct substitute for Duracool.

There are many other places where one can purchase Duracool.

You don’t have to look for alternatives.
