Sitting in a trucks top in BensonAZ, engine stalled on decel, and had to stand on the brakes. When I got restarted, the pedal " hitched and went to the floor, there is some brake at that point. I'm thinking I need a master cyl. Is there one I can get from an auto parts store? Nobody seems to have these rigs in their system. Any help appreciated.

Steve Furgason lives in Sierra Vista, just a few miles done the road from you. He is a former GMC'r with a lot of GMC knowledge. Pretty sure he would help you. I won't give out his phone # on the net, but can be found on the Black list. If you see him, say "HI" for me.

Brian,
I am guessing that you did try to "pump it up" and if that did fail then a master cylinder is a good idea.
When in parts stores, have them look for a GMC 74 Transmode. Many listing have this.
This is another good reason to be a member of GMCMI, the printed replacement parts book should be carried onboard.
There is also an on-line parts list at http://gmcmhparts.com/index2.asp.
For today look for:
NAPA P2085
Raybestos MK-646 or MC39075
Wagner F79821
Bendix 11730
If you need more, come back.
If you are careful about bench bleeding it, you may be able to get away without having to do a system bleed.

Raybestos MC39075 is what is in mine from Dave Lenzi.
If it feels like something broke, and there is no resistance at all on the pedal, id start looking under the dash to see if something came unbolted.
Any fluid loss, like a line burst somewhere?

Sounds more like a booster or vacuum line failure to me. If you do not have
a brake warning light on, then all you have is manual brakes with no
assist. Check the large vacuum line from the booster to the intake
manifold, particularly if you have had an engine backfire. Keep us posted
on what you find.

Brian, I lost brakes on the road two different trips. Each time my problem
was caused by a leak in the hydraulic steel line, once on the left and once
on the right, in the rear wheel well. Once I got a replacement line, I had
it it repaired in less than an hour each time.
If pumping the brakes doesn't work, you probably need a master cylinder.
Just trying to help.

Wow! Fast help. I do have a parts book, but you guys had answers faster than I could have pulled it out. Matt- I tested it in the truck lot, sometimes it hung up at the spot where they usually engage, then all the way down with some braking there, mostly at back wheels it seems like. Managed to limp with white knuckles to a shop next to a Napa store. Waiting for them to open now. Jim- I recently installed new booster from Jim k and it seems to still work. Feels like I lost an o ring???
