Thinking about taking the coach to Oshkosh this year, but not too interested in getting stuck in the mud. I've always adhered to the wisdom of the GMCers to keep it on dry hard roads. So how does Camp Scholler fare most years? Swamp, or no?

I have never taken our GMC there. I have probably been to Oshkosh about a half dozen times over the past 20 years, so I am far from an expert.
But I have seen others with GMcs there. The Camp Scholler terrain depends entirely on the weather. If it is dry, it is fine. If it rains, well...

I have been there more years than I can count. We use to go every year. Laurie woudl drive in and I would fly in. On Friday I would fly out, pick up my daughter from Culver Military Academy and back again. On Monday very early I would fly her back again. I have never seen any problem at the EAA Camp Scholler.
Now it is a different story if you park in the farmer's field right across the street from the Vintage aircraft. Parking there you stand a chance of getting stuck in heavy rains.
The last time we were there two years ago Paul Bartz and I stayed in tent with a group of Canadians mostly from Manitoba. We had a great time.
If you have never been there then definitely go.
If you have been there then I will say that it is not what it use to be. Over the years it has turned into the county fair with airplanes.

If any GMC'ers find themselves in the Vintage Parking/Camping area, look for me and my plane (and my cooler). We usually have about 40 Cessna 195's and our area is right along the airshow runway 18/36. I may try to get down to Branson for some forums (only 35 miles away)...

The thought of walking back to an air conditioned sanctuary with a filled fridge sure sounds tempting. The 27 hour drive each way to and from Phoenix not so much.
I could fly up in my Cardinal, but the possibility of getting turned away after 2 days of flying to have to stay in Fond du Lac and take a bus over has me a bit concerned ( why didn't this stuff worry me 33 years ago when I was 18 in a no radio J-3?) . With the GMC, if you make it there, you've made it THERE.

In 2010 when "spolshkosh" occurred walmart and other shopping centers were
allowing RVs to park in the parking lots of the stores. They were even
going as far as allowing plug ins for hookups. As for the RV parks by the
airport, well there were two 40 footer diesel pushers stuck axle deep in
the quagmire across from the Vintage warbirds. lol

That is the farm / mud lot that I was talking about. If you park there, be sure to park on high ground back near the trees is good or right up front along the fence by the street. It is much more convenient that the EAA Campground. It is right across the street and you are on the field, but it is definitely roughing it with no facilities. I have parked there many times but only once with the motorhome for only two days. The EAA has unsuccessfully tried to shut them down for years.
If you are Canadian there is an international welcome tent with quite a spread of free good food. I was able to sneak in there the last time we were there. I did OK until someone from Saskatchewan saw my Manitoba badge and asked me where I was from. I went into my deaf routine so I did not have to answer him.
