Hi guys...

I plan on mounting a Sharp Convection Microwave over the range.

Has anyone done this?

How well does the "rear Vent" line up with the existing "range vent hood opening" from the factory range hood?

I know I will have to build a "shelf" to best position the microwave, my concern Is how it lines up with the existing hole? If it does line up, will it be too low to cook properly?

Thanks for the help...

Steve

I am considering this also, and or getting a microwave that has a hood-light built into the bottom of the microwave. I have seen them in hotel suites. But hope for a 12v fan and LED light.
Ventline makes a few hoods-fan-lights that are 12v and vent out the back.

Mine is suspended from the bottom of the cabinets, between the sink and the stove. Works well there.

I created a plenum with sheet metal to connect mine, the otr microwave is lower than OEM vent. Booted unistrut to wall framing to support.

We have had microwave hanging from the cabinet over the stove for a long time.

It did require that I reinforce the joints of the cabinet.

For the first install, I hung it an inch below the cabinet so the vent fan could be used. That was a waste.
For the second, current (and better according to the cook), I took out the vent fan and replaced it with three computer fans that are quieter and move more air. The Microwave is now tight to the cabinet bottom and one of the three LED pucks is mounted under that. So, the fan works better, there is more light in the galley, and the microwave is easier to use. I can access the fans and filter through the access hole in the back of that cabinet if I ever need to do so.
