I have read that the gross vehicle weight rating for the 23 is 10.5 and the 26, 12.5. I'm wondering about carrying capacity. I understand every vehicle is different but has anyone weighed their 26' with a full load (full fuel, water, LP, driver & pax and all gear with empty waste tank)? Just wondering how much room their is between the actual weight of a typical coach and the GVWR. Thanks.

jor Curb weigh and GVWR vary by year model. The 1973 and 74 23' models had a curb weight of 8600 pounds and the 26' models had a curb weight of 9600 pounds, but both models had a GVWR of 10,500 pounds regardless of length. The 1978 models had a curb weight of 10,570 pounds and a GVWR of 12,500 pounds.
Download the Operating Manual for your year model and it will tell you the curb weight and GVWR.

My early production (Dec 73) 1974 26 footer says 11200 gross on the tag under the hood.
Weighed it a few years ago fully loaded for camping with 2 overweight adults in the front seats and the scale said 12060.

Thanks to all. I still can't get over how much information is available on these babies. I mean, the factory manual! I'm not used to that. I'm looking at a 76 today so now I have the proper information. Seems to me it would be easy to add a lot of weight or screw up the weight distribution with some of these remodels. When I get one I think I'll head for Escapees or somewhere and get a 4-point weight.

In orgn the truck weight scales stay on when the scale is closed
So when you come to the coos bay ,fall rally ,you can weight your coach

John,
Some of the regional GMC clubs have scales to weight the coaches and you're talking about a 6 Wheel weight. GMCMI conventions weight coaches at each of their conventions and a least one of the West coach GMC clubs also has one.
As your are a fairly new to the GMCnet, Welcome! I think that Matt & Mary Collie have the very best welcome to new members and I am going to quote it here in this rely and I hope that they don’t mind!
"Now, four things of varying importance:
You found your way here and that is good. Now, go the Control Panel, Account settings and scroll way down. Put in a sigfile with your real name (so
when you meet other owners they will know who you are), a short bit about the coach (year, upfitter, there are some differences and mods that matter),
and a geographic reference (so that someone that might like to help you will know if he is in striking range).
Next, go to Bdub's links and find the registry and get that set so John knows about you and the coach.
Third, look up the local chapter (Which is ever close) and get familiar with those people. The fact that they will be a valuable resource is the
next item.
Last but not the least important by any means is that by being a GMC owner you can be part of a community like few others that exist. They are vastly
supportive and helpful. The only sure way to annoy them is to ask for advice and then ignore it. We may not have any original owners here, but we do
have some that wore out one or more coaches and have some experience with everything. The only other community that I know of that is like this is
that of the watermen that are my world. For that reason, I have taken to welcoming new owners much as any new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,
May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within here.
Welcome John

I am glad to see you posting here. You will get the best answers and advice. I have had my coach weighed twice. Both times were while traveling for an extended time so the coach was well packed. There were no passengers while weighing. The water was about 150lbs and the fuel about 100lbs for weight #1. I do not know those numbers for weight #2. Each wheel was weighed independently and added together for the total weight. Good luck with your search.
Weight #1 = 11600
Weight #2 = 11700

Come to a GMCMI, Eastern States, or Bean Station rally. I sometimes bring my scales when they asked ahead of time. I'll have them at Branson. It is a real pain to cart them around and they are heavy, so I only bring them when asked. Alex Sirum in Florida also has a set that he or Jeff sometimes bring to GMCMI. I do not know of anyone around Tuscon with them.
I can give you individual wheel weights, but to get you started, drive through a state highway weigh station or a grain elevator. Some junk yards and truck stops (for a fee) also have them.
Most state highway weigh stations leave their scales turned on even when they are closed. Simply pull in and drive over the scales. The weights will be shown on a big display that you can see from the driver's seat of the coach. These scales are very accurate but you can only see individual axle weights and not individual wheels weights. That will get you started until you can get it weighed on each individual wheels.

Where do you live...I'm on the email list ?
Checked out the BlackList and I am getting some great information from a member of the Saguaro Jet Set here in Tucson, Arizona (Carl). I've got several coaches on my list and have had good discussions with the current owners. Two would require a lot of travel to inspect and one is close - just 110 miles. Getting closer to pulling the trigger.
Good advice on the quoted welcome. I'll take it.

Saw this thread a while ago and was curious about ours. In advance of our trip we have most everything packed.
Front weight(with passengers) = 3815 lbs
Driver rear = 3970 lbs
Passenger rear = 3570 lbs
Total rear =7650
Total GMC approx = 11,500 lbs
A bit over rear weight according to owner manual of 7500. Couple hundred under total weight.
I had some water in the tank (1/3 full) and holding tank is empty. Both fuel tanks are full.
We still have to load the 2 bikes on the hitch. This is our weight for 1300 miles. then we load lots of beer and coke and water to get the last 200 miles. I'll be right at GVWR at that point but heavy on the rear. Of course that will decrease when I'm not holding 50 gallons of fuel.
