Sorry for the travelogue tone of this post, but it is our 56th wedding anniversary so I guess I feel like going a bit off topic. In one of the most "who'd a thunk it" moments in a long time we found ourselves sitting on the deck of the Palmer, AK, Elks Club over looking a beautiful lake full of active boaters last night for dinner.........in shirt sleeves and under bright blue sky's. The day's drive from glacier fields all around to here reinforced our preconceived notions of AK being all about cold, mountains, glaciers and ocean, but the deck of this Elks Club was none of those. We thought we were somewhere on a lake in the green of the Midwest on the very best day of summer, right up until the sea plane landed and slid gently past on the way to its moorings. And, right up until we once again became conscious of the mountains and glaciers in the background. What a marvelous view, and a good dinner, too.

I guess I have to add at least a bit of GMC content so will note that we have yet to use any measurable amount of oil in now nearing 4000 miles on this trip. I tied the dip stick tube so it would stay in place (even though too deep into the block) after having the flat tip break off of the dip stick a couple of weeks ago. I was able to find an oil line a short distance up the round part of the shaft so could use that as a full mark for the rest of this trip. I use Joe Gibbs 15-40 racing oil in this engine as it is laced with ZDDP and is what the engine builder (SandJ out of Spokane, WA) recommends. As a side note, they supply Joe Gibbs break in oil with their new engines.

Now back to enjoying the day......I hope yours will be as good!

Jerry

A couple of things in common. Will have our 56th this August, also back in 54,55 and 56, gosh I'm getting old, I hung around Palmer most every weekend during the Summer Months. Was a neat place back then although cannot remember a Elks Club, mostly Agriculture. Biggest darn veggies in the World.
Have enjoyed your posts, thanks.
