On the kitchen window upper half is a piece of aircraft wire with a hook that mates with a nylon piece on the lower half.
Anyone know its alleged function?

There is a metal channel that has a spring and a cord with pulleys. The cord goes down one side and hooks to the lower glass pane. This apparatus acts as a lift mechanism and keeps the lower pane in the position that you raise it to.
I once found a company that had these mechanisms as a replacement. The nylon parts in the original would often get brittle and break. Hehr, the original maker of the window no longer has them available.

Bringing this thread back to life from the past I've done some searching w/no luck on my sliding door and kitchen windows the plastic nylon piece that anchors to the window glass and connects to the nylon chord, broke off of the window and I'm looking for a replacement any ideas? I thought I read somewhere that someone used a beer can pop-top... just wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
