The parking pawl on my coach has started to slip when I put the transmission into park. If the coach rolls slightly forward or backwards, the pawl will not hold it in place. It just makes a clunking sound until I apply the brakes. So I have a few questions.
1. Can the slippage be caused by something being out of adjustment?
2. If I need to replace the pawl, does the transmission need to be dropped? In looking through the archives and the GMC docs, it looks like it may be accessible by removing the transmission pan.
3. Is the pawl a part that is easy to find?

If itis just a rounded paw, you can replace with a good one and do it by
removing the pan.
There is a pin that hold the shaft in place, just leave enough of it
extended should you need to undo it again.
You might make sure the adjustment is correct also.

My 23' does that occasionally, but then catches. I believe, by the 'feel' of the shifter, I need to adjust the linkage a bit. You might try the same. I always chock with 4x4s anyway.

I created and fixed my slipping pawl by adjusting the shift linkage. The 'fixed' part took longer than the 'created' part. Basically moved the barrel bolt a little to allow the column shifter to push the shift lever on the trans a little further towards 'Park'. After finally studying the manual closely. Anyway, I'd try that before buying a new transmission, unless this is a good excuse to just go ahead and get a new one. I know I was tempted but knowing that I'd been in there before, I suspected 'operator error' rather than part failure.
Usual disclaimers..... 'Just what I would do', 'Your results may vary', 'Do not put fingers into electrical socket', etc., etc.

It is probably not a problem with the parking pawl and more likely
that your shift cable needs adjustment.
Refer to the Maint manual page 7-19 for troubleshooting guide and
7-25 for linkage adjustment procedures.
If it is the pawl, it can be changed by dropping the pan.
