Scored a running, power producing Honda EV6010 this morning for $300 plus $28 in gas and 6.5 hours of round trip driving. Hopefully I can get the oil leak cleaned up, get a good service done, and figure out how to get it into the Onan hole. She's a bit old looking, and I'm at least the third owner, but started up and ran strong on a gerry can and my car battery. Unfortunately I've got a few weeks before I'll get a chance to make much progress but that'll give me a chance to figure out how to move the batteries up front and build a floor in the genny compartment.

Thanks,

how many batteries you got? My new one has two large 6 volt deep cycles, they fit behind the Onan just fine, don't come close to the boost solenoid back there.

Honda is longer than the onan. Batteries won't fit with the honda back there.

Bad field windings. I've already been asked for it and I'll either give it away or see if anyone wants to give me a few dollars for the few parts that are worth anything. Has a Ragusa airflow deflector, petronix system, starter isn't too old, dino board was put on 9 years ago. Probably more. I've spent more on the Onan in the 9 years I've owned the coach than it would have cost me to buy something else back then. Leaks oil, but otherwise the motor starts and runs well. Just doesn't produce any electricity. It also is showing age in other ways, green connectors, tired wiring, etc., so dumping money in to fix it finally ran out of "makes sense" for me.

Thanks Jim. I know about Pinellas Power. I found a guy about 40 miles from me that works on 4 or 5 of them. If I get stumped on the oil leak, I'll drop it off there. Of course if I get stumped on the oil leak, I'm probably going to regret dropping $300 on it in the first place...

$300 is a steal. Your oil leak is probably at the oil pump gasket. You will have to separate the generator stater(coils) from the engine to get to it. That also gives you a chance to get in and clean every thing up while the stater is off.
But if it already starts and runs good, your set!

Somebody already asked for the dead Onan, give 'em it. I would of harvested parts only. I have a spare whole one I need to get running.

Even if the oil leaks prove to be a major problem, the Honda parts are worth more than you paid for the ev. Control box new is $400. starter is $100. Windings are $1000. Of course these are approximate prices for new. You got a steal.

At 300 bucks thats what I decided at the end. Probably couldn't lose and I need to try something or this whole summer season will slip away before I notice.

Wood works good as a mounting base. It doesn't retain as much heat as the steel one. Make your cutouts from your template just a hair bigger, except for the bolt holes. A lot of people will pit in heat insulation around the inside of the compartment before they put the generator in. Scott
