While doing PM I noticed the 3 support bearing bolts were each a good turn loose. Used a 1/2 socket on 3/8 ratchet on lower 2 but could only get fair access to the top one with a gear wrench or open end. Any special tool combo to get better results? Also is there any point while the plate is loose to try to inject grease with a needle setup? Not sure it would get into the bearing at all.

John,

IIRC the bearing is a sealed unit, check the parts book.

The trick was the box end of a 1/2-9/16 wrench. This had more offset stagger to reach over the lip. Made it to Sandusky Mi no issues at all. Having new black tank and all rubber fuel lines replaced with barrier. Also having the aux tank booster pump w/ relay off the dash switch. Stuff I just don't want to attempt w/o a pit or lift. Again, problem found and fixed during the pre trip inspection made for a trouble free ride.
