Mac,

Maybe this will suit you better:

http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G21218&mc_cid=63e4964713&mc_eid=7f81922873

I use only GMail for the past several years. Gives me all the options I
want, such as automatically threading GMCNet emails on subject. :-)

So for 600 scoots, you have a lifetime supply of them.
Somebody buy a tube and resell them.

Just to be sure no one is disappointed: It's doubtful that those relays
have the same pin arrangement as the Onan boards'. It would probably be
necessary to mount the relay differently, perhaps upside down, and run
individual leads to the pins. But they should function correctly.

Stiff wire with shrink on it lets you reroute each contact to the proper hole in the board. Since the board cover has openings for the relays, it won't matter if the relay sticks out a bit more than normal, just be sure it clears when you slide the drawer back in.

Ken,
I found on an Onan schematic you had made up years ago the following reference to relay part numbers.

ECG RLY5142 Which I found here for $3.97:
http://www.weisd.com/test/GenericParts_WEISD_view.php?editid1=RLY5142

ECG RLY6522R which I found here and found them for $7.95 each.
http://www.nteinc.com/ecg/Relays_Pgs_1-172.pdf

Are these no longer valid part numbers? I've never had an issue with my Onan involving the board so I have never had it out to check part-numbers, ratings, footprint etc.

Bruce,

AFAIK, those PN's are still good, but perhaps hard to find -- and more
expensive.

Unless someone's just into electronics and wants to do their own repairs,
the Dinosaur boards are probably a better option.

Personally, I'm glad I no longer have to "onan". :-)

Ken, on a related subject, I recall that you rewired your Onan. The wiring appears to be 16 gauge, but did you use anything other than what you can buy at an auto parts store or Home Depot? I understand there's wire out there that is designed to work in harsher environments, but I don't know if we need to use that type of wire.

Also, I just purchased a Flight Systems control board and harness. So far, so good, except that the leads from pins 4 and 6 on the harness were too short. The good news is that Flight Systems is going to repair it. It appears they thought pins 4 and 6 on the harness connect to the corresponding numbered connectors on the top of the Onan board, whereas they actually connect to connectors 5 and 1 on the bottom of the board.

Bryan,

I did indeed rewire my Onan. I was surprised at how little wire it took to
do the job. Because they ran 'most everything through that 12-pin
connector, they often used much more wire than necessary -- like 12"
instead of 4"!

One thing they did right though, was to number every wire. When you
rewire, try to use a different colored wire for every function. Or use
some permanent labelling system. I've numbered a LOT of my other wires
with flags made with Brother TZ label tape. I'm not sure I'd be content
with that on the Onan though.

This is perhaps the best answer to your wire grade question:

http://www.automotivewire.info/automotiveprimarywire.htm

I generally use GXL, but the Onan is a pretty benign environment so 'most
anything will work. 16 gauge is a good all-around choice, but 18 would be
sufficient on the Onan.

Since I no longer have an Onan nor any of its parts, I can't check, but I
do know that there are some terminals on the control board which are
duplicated at different locations -- that may explain how Flight Systems
managed to mis-wire their connector.

Good luck; I'm sure you'll enjoy the absence of the rat's nest.

Ken

Doing numbered wires is 'spensive unless you know someone who has spools of it, like manufacturers. I use Brother tape with numbers on each end of a run, and cover with clear heat shrink.

Actually, there are several printers out there which print heat shrink directly. We had a couple we shared around the company when someone was rewiring. Great timesavers.

Cheap, easy to apply, durable and quickly available. As close to an
exact replacement as you can get for numbering cables.
