Hi all,

I'm still alive and well, aside from the occasional depression state that I go threw since my childhood days.
Not even my car crash could do me any harm, seems only Cyanide could prematurely take me out.
Knock on wood.
You'd be as surprised as I was to see what devastation a 1990 Chrysler minivan can cause.
65 - 75 feet of Armco-identical barrier had to be replaced, and as far as I remember, at least two H-style posts were SHEARED OFF.
Next time I'll run the fox over.
If I'd would have gotten it, the insurance would have paid for the car repair, . but now my minivan is definitely a write off, and my liability insurance paid thousands for some replacement barrier. Weirdly, the rental fee for the two traffic lights for three, four days was more expensive than the repair of the barrier.

Anywho, I might be going to the U.S. soon to do some travelling - at first, not GMC related - and I'm looking for a Pay-As-You-Go cell phone service including phone.

I know Tracfone, but they ask you for a zip code. I know what that is about, and I wonder if anyone could recommend an "Area-Free" service, meaning, that if you're traveling, nothing is local or long-distance, but cheap in general, preferably even international calls.
My aim is to have one or two phones, so I can stay in touch with my friend I'm traveling with, in case we get each out of each others' eyes when shopping or running into the town. You guys know what I mean?

Thanks for your help.

And I've been thinking about you all and about the GMC I don't yet have. Still thinking about the three-way gauge and replacing it with an LCD. Wouldn't you love that?
Seems some manufacturers like NEC and others are now making round LCDs' in about that size. Heard that someone is even making touch screens. I wonder if you all would love a touchscreen GMC gauge as much as I would. It could control anything, even provide navigation. Hopefully someday we'll all have an original looking touchscreen GMC.

Best wishes from Switzerland.

Dominik

Dominik,

as others have said, they need the zip code to determine the service
available.

Depending on the length of your stay and the usage, it might be better
to just keep your European phone and use that. Especially if you mainly
want to use it to check with each other. The advantage of your European
phone plan is, that your phone will use whatever service is available,
as long as the frequency is okay. So your coverage will be much better.

I have a phone I'm not willing to take on an adventure trip.

I'd prefer something I can throw away and replace with a new one when necessary.

But I get what you mean, my current euro phone even works on CDMA, but it cost me almost a grand, so this will stay in the dry.

Buy an inexpensive unlocked phone such as this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/231425355544?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true

Then order a SIM card such as this:

http://www.telaway.co.uk/American-USA-prepaid-sim-card/HomePage.aspx

There are other sources for both phones and SIM cards, these are just two of many.

Hit Wal-Mart and purchase TracFone. Enter zip code for Wal-Mart store. Done deal. TracFones start at $10. If your Europhone is GSM, and I suspect that it is, and it has an extra SIM slot, just purchase a TracFone Sim and install it in your current phone. Turn phone on and follow directions and TracFone will use your current phone and their SIM. I'm currently using a smart phone purchased without service and used TracFone SIM. Works just firm on their purchased network. My phone is currently using AT&T 4G LTE network and works everywhere that I have taken it.

Okay, seems that TracFone still has the best options for me.

TelAways' offer would be great if I use the phone on a daily basis, but I doubt I would put thru more than one text message a day, unless my travel companion gets out of sight for too long.

Unfortunately, TracFone devices don't allow you to use Wi-Fi, otherwise one could use Skype for those weekly calls home to your family.

Thank you for your contributions. Dominik
