I plan on going to Bean Station (note to self: you forgot to pay for
registration dummy, get on it!). I am hoping its a suitable place to
replace my header gaskets?? I'll probably need a hand or two, but have the
gaskets in hand (Remflex from JimK).

Who else is going to Bean Station?

Lastly, I lost Eric Tanner's contact info and did not find him in the Black
List. I need to talk to him, if anyone has his contact info, please drop me
a line, off the list.

Thanks.

Tony,

GLW&CDR, we'll be going to BS on Wed, 4 May. The pit there will be a good
place to replace the manifold gaskets (not as good as mine 'cause it's a
conventional hole-in-the-ground rather allowing you to stand and work on
the outside as well). More straw bosses than you're likely to need. Start
NOW soaking the bolts with PB-Blaster or ATF+Acetone.

We can probably count on about 40 coaches, as a WAG.

A point to ponder - the Ratrod Toad consumed header gaskets like Fritos, probably because you can't torque the bolts enough to hold them still without breaking them. I can show you the pieces. I got a set of hardened capscrews and put a bit of red LokTite<tm> on and torqued them down to the high end of the specified value... 45ft lbs I think. They haven't moved since.

That was going to be my suggestion also. Soak those bolts once a day for at least 5 days before you come to BS. If you run the engine to go somewhere and get it hot, then soak them immedately hot and again when it the engine cools down. use a 3/8" drive impact wrench lightly on them to see if they have loosened up. If they to no immediatley move soak the bolts again and wait another day.

I like to use Kroil instead of PB Blaster.

4 of the 5 bolts are open end holes into spark plug cavity. Clean the holes and soak from the back side.

Don't know if I will make it there this year or not...either way, when you FIRST put a wrench on the bolts, TIGHTEN them a hair(or a degree), before you loosen them. I don't know exactly why this works, just that it does and can make an incredible difference in the ease of removing fasteners of almost any type.
