Interesting that the new CRV and HRV in all trim levels are available in Canada with a standard transmission so towable four down. The CVT models are not as others have pointed out. In the US I could not find a standard trans model of the CRV, but in lesser models it is available on the HRV and the Fit. Too bad the warrantee was not transferable across the border as we likely would have purchased a standard trans version of one of these upper end models there.

Yes, it is as long as it is a manual transmission unit. The only Honda that are now towable for 2016 are Manual Transmission units which include the Civic LX and Sedan LX and the FIT & HR-V. In 2015 only the FIT LX & EX in manual version were available. In 2014 the CR-V in all models with Auto trans were towable. In 2013 both the CR-V and FIT Auto trans were towable.

All kinds of people in Canada buy new cars in the US including my next door
neighbour's father...fully covered by warranty. Don't believe what dealers
tell you...they're just trying to keep the money in.... 1st their pockets
and ruling that out, their home country's pockets.

I wonder if there is sufficient difference in the certifications between the two countries that the Canadian CRV manuial shift doesn't meet some US requirement. In that the take rate of manuals runs under ten percent of most models, it might not be economic to certify it here. Chrysler has sold minivans on the Continent with a Moto Vittori duiesl in them for years.. built in Canada alongside the amrican ones. Not available here, the market they say is too small to modify it to meet US spec. Go figure.

Yes, there are a number of cars sold in Canada that are not certified for US sales. I met a guy in Florida a number of years ago that had a diesel powered Smart Car. Not certified for the US market, but he wanted one to pull behind his diesel pusher 40’ coach. So he bought and licensed it in Ontario, CAN, he lived outside of Detroit across from Winsor, ONT. CAN. I did ask how but it worked for him.
