Spotted a beige 26ft (I think) GMC from D.C. Metro train. It was a bit north of van dorn station in a yard about 200 yards west from the tracks........

My first sight of one in the wild........

Did it look neglected? I'll have to go check it out if I'm up in the area.

If the door is in the "center" of the side its a 26', if right behind the
front passenger window (the front seat area) its a 23' :)

I'm pretty sure it's a 26 but only saw it for a few seconds and by the time I got over the exitement of seeing it .....we were past. Going back in tomorrow, so will have a look again to see if it's still there and try to work out exactly where it is.

Think I've found it on Google earth. 4351 Eisenhower ave in Alexandria.
Big yard with all sorts of vehicles and boats and it's parked top left corner against the tree line.

Think there is access further up the avenue. Might try to see it tomorrow and get pictures

Ok I managed to get a picture from the metro line on Sunday and when I finally had a closer look at it
I'm pretty sure there are two GMCs here!
The first is a beige 26ft facing the camera and and I'm pretty sure thats a white 26ft transmode
opposite it facing away from the camera.
Through the wonder of google earth, it seems the Transmode arrived in 2006 and has not moved whilst the
GMC Motorhome appears in 2014 and keeps the same spot since then.

anyone local take a closer look? its in the storage yard but seems they might have no problem about letting someone
check out the yard as a good place to store their RV Smile

Its in "American Self Storage" at 4351 Eisenhower Ave in Alexandria VA, just off eastern loop of 485.
I went to have a closer look on Sunday but yard was closed with barrier down as it was easter sunday.
You cant see them from the road....well maybe from the roof of a GMC :)but its a public storage business and access shouldn't be
too hard....

Pete,

I lived in Alexandria, VA, through July of last year and took the Blue Line past that storage facility daily. I was contemplating buying a GMC motorhome and thought about storing it there. The GMCs you've spotted are new additions to the yard, at least since July 2015, as I never saw them from the train.

Pete,

I stand corrected - just noted your research done on Google Earth, showing they've been there for a while. I'm disappointed that I never spotted the GMCs from Metro...might have bought one! Good luck finding out more about them.
