IMO - 640x480 isn't big enough to give enough detail in a lot of cases. The only real benefit of using 640x480 is the extremely small file size.

I typically shoot with a 640 X 480 resolution which is really good for sending images as email attachments or jump up one range to 1600 X 1200 resolution. Everything that I have up loaded to the GMC photo site has been using the 640 X 480 resolution. What I am trying to say that more is not necessary better. Just look at some of my photo albums, they are all crisp and clear.
