For those of you that have replaced a blown engine, what did you do for an engine oil cooler?

Larry,
My Cad 500 didn't have an oil cooler hooked up when I bought it. Made for nervous times. Most all the rest of GMCs have coolers for engine oil. The upshot is that I saw on some sites that Cad 500s don't need oil coolers. Even while ballooning the heat when asking too much from the engine on fuel injection, I sent in an oil sample to Blackstone. They replied that while they didn't have much of an opinion about the need for oil coolers, they did report that the oil I sent to them didn't show signs of overheating. So, I am still on the fence about that need. I wonder what Ken H. does for oil cooling on his 500. Jim K?

Larry, Carey,
I've always used the radiator oil cooler with my Cad 500, first with the
OEM copper; after the first trip up Monteagle, with the aluminum.
While I don't necessarily think it's mandatory to use an external cooler,
there was SOME reason Cad put one in the Eldorado. At least those from
which mine came.
Larry, this doesn't mean you've trashed another Cad, does it?

Notwithstanding all the discussion that inevitably comes up with whether or not you should or should not install an oil cooler: here is an installation I did.
GM installed it from factory and generally instsll them in heavy duty installations, and mine was full of s¿¡t. I think I need one. Full of info too.

Carey,
I contend that if our MH did not need oil coolers, they would have left it
off.
Use the adapter from the Olds engine and use the New style oil coolers.
I need to use an extra large oil cooler as I need to contend with the heat
from the twin turbos. Also use the radiator oil cooler and have a
thermostat flow control for cold weather.

I used the one Jim k recommends with a fan attached. In my case it is a necessity.

I had mentioned in my original reply to Larry who asked about what to do with the oil cooler when replacing a blown engine, that the Cadillac 500 I am running, (very broadly speaking), didn't have an oil cooler, or had its cooler deleted. Found some evidence that some don't believe the Cadillac 500 "needed" an oil cooler. Or at least someone posting on the internet. Blackstone (the oil analysis folks) says my oil was in good shape from overheating concerns, after a trip across country.
But the consensus here from KenH, JimK, Roy1, and John Heslinga, is to put it on. I watched Manny's transmission rebuild presentation DVD and he mentions that if you move 15,000 pounds, get a 30,000 pound rated cooler (double the rating). His cooler is very large. He also uses 3/8" brake line for the cooling connection, further obviating the need for a ground strap to the radiator to prevent galvanic corrosion, if you still also use the radiator transmission cooler. I guess the very last thing Manny wants to do is to rebuild his own transmission in his coach.
Again, thanks, and I will get that done.
So, two coolers coming to my coach. The list lengthens.
