Actually, the first half, home to a show in Gnashville. First real test of the recored radiator and rebent carb linkage. We attacked Monteagle and the coach walked over it like it wasn't there. 50 - 55per with the Mousetoad clipped on behind. Temp went to quarter scales, the DigPpanel showed 175 = 180 for trans and engine temp. The back two barrels open nicely when it's floored. The fan clutch turned on about a mile into the hill, turned off after about a half mile of the flatland at the top. If it goes home Sunday night as well as it came up here, cooling and vapor-lock will be declared healed. First 238 miles burned 25.0 gallons of no alcohol....9.52 mpg towing with the cruise set at 2500.. I'll take it.

Hey, Johnny,

Not a lot of extracurricular fun. Did you ever replace that wheel that motored by you? Just a joke. You are due for some trouble free cruising! I saw that Kuvasz at the Westminster show and thought of your dogs. He didn't score, a shorthaired dog won it. Bitch.

Now, for the acid test go over Monarch Pass in Colorado. I'm sure there are more difficult tests, though.

We don't get a lot of love at high profile shows. The boy you saw, Pandur, has one Best In show, he's a nice dog. However, several years back Tanner showed, at the time had over 50 BISes. We seldom see judges who are really conversant in the breed, usually they're licensed for Kuvs as 'rest of the Working Group.' Which is probably just as well - high profile show winners often result in a lot of less than good examples of the breed being placed in less than desirable homes which results in lots of dogs being rescued. And, in the instance of flockguards, it's easy for the breed to get a bad name from this. So while we'd like the recognition for our breeders, we usually aren't heartbroken at the lack of sudden interest winners get. The Dalmation breeders were ready to march on The Mouse and burn it down a while back.
As to the Western mountains, I expect the coach would go over most of them without a lot of problems, albeit not very quickly. If/when the transmission gets rebuilt, I'll probably go for Manny's Power Drive setup. I think somewhere around 3.5 to 1 for a 23' in the East is about the optimum when fitted with a 455. With the smaller engine, I'd likely turn it up a bit more.

Yeah, for the 1k miles or so I've driven the too-heavily-layden Royale (no towd), it feels like the right setup. When JimB did a delivery out to the west last year, he came back going on about 3.7's but -when pressed- he still recommends 3.5 for the east.

Second half of the report...
60+ over Monteagle, and not quite 1/4 on the temp gauge. First fillup shows 10.05 MPG. The back barrels open when you floor it, and it makes more power without more heat. My year old oil pressure sender (Delco, yet) got intermittent and then died, so I had to turn off the alarm on the digipanel. Temps never got over 180 trans and engine pulling the mountain, run ~~ 170 on the flat. The fan clutches the last mile of the mountain, let go about half a mile on the flat. It rained fairly heavily in Gnashville, no leaks I could find, so at some point interior panel replacement is in the cards. Worst part of the whole thing - somehow I've knocked the power lead off the dash stereo. 300 miles with no tunes is a bummer.
Spiral ham sammiches for supper with friends one night, sevenses after supper another, four or five congenial Dog Persons killed off a fifth of Eagle Rare and another of Emmet's Irish Cream over four or five hours total. At no time were politics or individuals' health mentioned. The way to party. Next up - Dothan on Sunday night in a couple weeks.

Life is better. Ground wire slipped off the radio, back now. And I bought the pressure sender from AutoZone, limited lifetime warranty. Took it in this afternoon, he looks up my account by phone number, "Yep, you bought it from us. Sign here." and he hands me a new one. Marked '80' on the lower part. Incidentally, AutoZone is 19.99 for these if you buy, Advance is 29.95. Both offer a forever warranty. The point being, >always< check prices between AutoZone, Advance, and O'Rielly-CarQuest. There usually one of them cheaper for any given part.

In some markets where they have both stores the Carquest outsold the Advanced Auto. That is the case in Fort Collins, CO so they have kept both stores open and the are only one block apart.
