I was wondering does anyone make a replacement cockpit headliner? mine is valling apart. 43 year old ABS finally giving up the funk.

Take it down, even in pieces, clean up the back of it and reinforce it with a layer of fiberglass fabric and plenty of ABS cement from the local home store. You can piece it back together where it cracked and fell apart. Multiple layers of ABS cement, with plenty of drying time between them, can be used to fill from the front.

Then cover it, or have it professionally covered, with a stretchable
headliner material. It'll look like new.

What do you do if the edge has crumbled back an inch or more?

Some small sheets of abs on amazon under 'Scientic & Industrial'
Also, there is a thin, gauze-like fiberglass tape in the drywall section of any big-box store like Lowes. It is slightly sticky on one side and very open-weave. You can work with it very well for this kind of repair (multiple layers work great because the open weave allows penetration of the gel, epoxy, or glue you're using) and it's dirt-cheap relative to buying f/g tape from marine suppliers.

Remember to drill the end of cracks with a check-hole to help stop the crack from running.

Unfortunately for mine, the curtain rail got, pulled down accidentally, and chunks came out. also there is a lateral split from front to rear. So its in pretty rough shape...

I bought a 4x8 sheet of a thin, white pvc panel at Home Depot in Orlando for $17. It is *not* FRP, much thinner and bendable. If I were tackling your job, I'd use it as a backplate and assemble the headliner on it, glueing as I went (landau adhesive). Then I'd trim the backplate and cut out places where it wouldn't follow the radius of the curves in the cockpit panel. Once I got it assembled, I'd then address the face --probably cover it with cloth, but maybe try filling/patching/fairing it.

Shan,
In addition to the recommendations from others for repairing your front
cap, you may want to plan ahead for more support, in case it sags in the
middle: The SMC outer cap has struts molded into it on the inside. I'd
suggest digging the foam out from between some of those near the middle.
Install wooden blocks with screws horizontally through the struts, perhaps
also using Liquid Nails or similar to glue them in. Take photos or
otherwise remember where those "nailers" are located so you can install a
couple of finish screws after the cap is installed.
You might also so want to consider installing an overhead console, as some
have done. You'll need to pre-position "nailers" for it also. Installing
that might cover a lot of blemishes and add significant strength.

Do not know where you are located, (signature line?) but a men's mall near Tampa Fl has a 1977 GMC that ;has been pretty much stripped of all it's usable parts. But the front headliner and rear headliner were still there in January. Be tricky to move far, but if local, I can see doing it.

I'm in the process rebuilding the ceiling of my coach. Repaired cracks in plastic pieces with JB weld and fiberglass matt. Hired an interior expert to attach vinyl to all the ceiling pieces. He only uses Landeau adhesives. Applying vinyl to the plastic pieces is a job for an expert in my opinion. While ceilling is down, I'm replacing all the clearance lights with one piece LED units and installing a backup camera system. Just information for your consideration.
