I am in the process of replacing the headliner...
Decided to clean-up, repair and paint the air conditioner interior plastic housing.
The foam in the duct has turned to sand.
Any suggestions on the type of foam to replace this with?
Anyone know what the purpose of this foam is for? (condensation?)
Thanks!

Noise control would be my guess. Moisture control second choice. You can find thin sheets of foam at stores like Jo-Ann's, Hancock, and Hobby Lobby.
It is used in art projects. Even get your choice of colors.

I used Reflectix, a brand name for that silver mylar covered bubble wrap. Tape the seams with a good quality aluminum foil tape. The low quality aluminum foil tape is much thinner and has terrible adhesive and ends up peeling away in short order.

For what its worth when I painted my ACs and front and rear headliners I took advice from the board and used Krylon Fusion white gloss for plastic.
I am very pleased with how all the pieces turned out and are so much better white than yellow.
