I'm headed to the Atlanta NASCAR race next week. Figured I'd change the oil, take sample, replace gasket for the adapter. (Thanks Rob M). Pulled up the GMC Photo album to glean any hints. But per the warning on the photo site I cracked the oil filter mount. Sunday afternoon now what? I called Jim K. Yep he answered the phone. Part to be shipped ASAP first thing Monday morning.

Folks when you need a part for the GMC go to Jim K.

George,

You might have saved a few miles by calling me. There's at least one in
the L/S container. :-)

Ken,
Why don't you do me a favor and send him the mount and the flat gasket as I
have many others to handle.
I'm sure Nick and Gary have plenty to handle with Monday phone calls that
overwhelm us on Mondays.
Were probable overpriced anyway and others can also buy boots for less for
other sources than your GMC suppliers as we are nothing more than bunch of
poachers.

Jim,

A few years ago you said something totally disrespectful like this on the GMCnet; do you remember what I told you to do?

Well go do it again!

Hey, Jim, I meant no implication against your cost. In fact, the comment
just sprung from the fact that I had just come from the storage trailer
where I saw a filter mount -- like the calipers I mentioned earlier.

Now, George, you tell me what to do: I'll be going to the PO in a couple
of hours to mail the caliper arms to Randy, shall I send you the filter
mount, or do you want to stick with the order to Jim?

I'll stick with Jim. Gotta support our GMC vendors ya know. And I made a commitment by calling on Sunday and Jim jumped right to it.
Thanks again,

Hope this shows up on the site, as I know I was out of line .
Ken Henderson is the last person I would show disrespect as he has aided me
several times and consider him a friend.
Ken , I apologise to you.
It is so easy to let your fingers print.
However,I still do not appreciate some people jabbing us by saying where
else to acquire parts .
If you feel that way come and say it to my face, or to Jim B or Jeff Sirum
and we will stop stocking parts and keep them for or service customers only.
I know Jim B and Jeff S feel that way.

Jim,

It's just toooo easy for all of us to misinterpret intentions in this
communications medium. I know you didn't really think I was trying to
"steal your customer/sale". Nor did I do so. Fact is, with George having
reported already finding what he needed, there was no use for me to waste
electrons with my comment; it was just meant, if anything, to remind a
neighbor that we need to stay in close contact to share our resources. No
need for either you nor I to apologize to the other, AFAIK.

I WILL say, however, that it's important for EVERYONE to remember that this
is, and must remain, an open discussion group, not the private domain of
anyone (except for owner Patrick, who wants it to be open). No one should
ever be criticized by anyone for providing information and/or advice to
anyone else, on any topic. Unless the offering is false or erroneous, in
which case, the other members here will see that it's rectified. It's well
known that we don't tolerate "flaming"; I consider sniping at advice-giving
to be a variation of that.

Adding to the absurdity of the whole thing: Later today I was in my L/S
container and looked again at the oil filter adapter. Turns out, I'd have
had to visit my parts cache 12 miles away to get an Olds oil filter adapter
for George -- this one is an integral part of a Cad 500 OIL PUMP! :-(

Ken,
I sincerely appreciate you reminding me of this forum.
Lot of times one thinks that we understand it all like everything in life.
At least I am man enough to listen and hope I learn it for a long time, not
a year or two like I have been.
I thank you for being a friend and understanding my weakness as well.

While we're talking parts - Jim K, are you going to bring a truck of ordered parts to Dothan? I've a need for several small items I'd rather call Nick and pay for them and have him toss them on the truck if there's one coming.

May I add one other thing about mounting that cooler adaptor on the oil filter mount. There is a positioning Key that needs to fit in the slot of the oil filter mount. If that was out of place, things can crack too. Watch for its proper alignment and placement when you reinstall things. My photos are not the best to indicate this so you will need to expand them.
I removed (ground out) that key so I could re-clock the adaptor.
In this photo it is on the left side of the Adaptor. (Notice the chunk of aluminium)

It fits in the indentation on the left in this photo. Notice that it is not round.

Notice how the key has been machined away in this photo.

John,
I'm glad you interjected tht information, as that will cause the mount to
be damaged.
For us that have done this operation few times, it becomes automatic and
forget to advise people that have not done so as often.
403 is tricky as one will feel it must be set an an angle that looks
proper, but not quite right.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes I reviewed all your pictures closely before the operation. The thought has crossed my mind that maybe I hadn't positioned the adapter properly.
This time I'll go to the extreme to confirm fit.
Thanks again
