Jim Bounds' pitch for trueing makes a lot of sense for GMC MH
owners since losing several thousand miles of usability on our
tires is not really a big drawback since our tires will normally
age out rather than wear out!

Harry wrote on Tue, 02 February 2016 16:31I had 6 new tires done there.
One had such a flat spot that we couldn't cut off any more rubber with out losing too much tread.
Seems like a good idea, but where else can you get this done?
There are still places that have tire truing machines, you just need to call around. Independent tire guys that sell lots of brands are probably your best bet. Or a local race shop...

I've got one setting in my shop. It's an older version of this, though
they look identical:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TSI-405-W-Amermac-Porta-Tire-Truer-/171057832334?hash=item27d3d7618e:g:oxsAAOSwe-FU71FE&item=171057832334&vxp=mtr
or
http://goo.gl/eliqfP
This machine has been in our family, unused, for at least 20 years. I need
to dispose of it to clear shop space. Anyone have a home for it? Its
configuration is such that it's really only suited for truing tires on the
front of a GMC (I had mine done that way once), it would be pretty easy to
rig a stand to support tires off of a vehicle for truing.
Amermac was started here in Americus by the owner of Peacock's garage. He
(Roy, IIRC) in 1958 sketched his ideas for the machine in the dirt in front
of his garage. My great-uncle, a local machinist, built the prototype.
The company changed hands some years later, but is still located in
Ellaville, 11 miles from me.

From that link, it appears there's been some activity with Amermac that I
was not aware of. They still have a sign up on the edge of Ellaville
pointing toward their offices, but that may be obsolete. I dunno.

G'day,
Well I think everybody should plan a trip to HTTS!
Better yet mount it in a trailer and you can become HMTTS!

PS - HMTTS = Henderson's Mobile Tire Truing Shop ;-)

That's probably a really good idea -- I you think you'll like square tires!
