To the newbees. The stock airbag system has proved to be a well engineered unit. But because so many have been in for so long. They get difficult to get out. But not unmanageable. I strongly suggest that you pull the bag out at home. Or pay someone to do it. Clean all the bolts, and fitting. Then reinstall. Because with everything cleaned up. You can change a bag in under 45 minutes on the road. I spent over 2 hours the other day to just removing one air bag. And I had to use an acetylene torch to get two nuts off. Plus I have the experience of doing it before. Bob Dunahugh Now building my own 78 Royale

When you reinstall the bags, coat the threads with anti-seize. Replace the nuts and star washers with stainless ones. The nuts and tooth washers are available at Ace hardware. Just look for the largest size in the stainless jam nut section.
The nuts do not need to be super tight as there is no strain on them. They are just there to keep the bags from hopping out. The pressure to hold the bag in place is done by the weight of the coach and the air pressure in the bag.

Thanks good advice. I was was going to remove one from my "extra coach" to carry with as a spare on my next trip so will do as you suggest as insurance and a learning experience.

Easiest way I have found to remove airbags is with an air impact wrench.
Big, honkin' end wrenches will only rotate the bag. The impact will spin
the nut off before the bag even thinks of turning. DO NOT REINSTALL WITH
IMPACT WRENCHES. Clean and lubricate the threads with never sieze, and
tighten with a big box wrench. What I do.
