I was in the local Aldi grocery store a couple hours ago, and on the housewares shelf they had a heathen chinee oscillating tool for 13 scoots, so I bought one. Trade name is Workzone. 6 bux less than HF, and it looks about the same. Time will tell.

These things follow the Gillette marketing scheme; give you the tool but make the big margin on the blades.

RC,

I got lucky and scored a 20% off a TOTAL sale from Harbor Freight a year or so ago. I bought two of every blade they make for their
multitool. The total came to well over $300 and I was happy as Larry getting over $60 off!

If you think HF blades are expensive check the ones made by other manufacturers they are OUT OF SIGHT!

BTW HF has gotten REALLY clever, their blades no longer have holes for the pins that keep the blade from rotating, they are now
slots.

The will fit a lot of other multitools made by other manufacturers.

This'n has pins on a cursory inspection. Came with 6 different blades and several grits of abrasive. I'm having kitchen cabinets in, I'll use it to trom the foam I put in the holes in the wall behind the cabinets.

We use an oscillator a bunch at work (apartment maintenance). As said earlier, tool is cheap, blades are out of sight. I didn't think of Gillette, but have used the inkjet printer vs cartridge pricing often as a comparison.

The tools are great for small, fine cuts in hard to reach areas. Can do metal but burns thru blades like crazy. Wood cuts pretty good. PVC cuts like butter.

For metal, I use a dremel with cutting disk.

I chose only two power tools (both corded) to pack in tbe Royale along with a decent array of hand tools. #1 was the GMC tool, the other was a 3/8 drill.

Johnny,

I'm pretty sure they all have pins on the tool, the holes or slots are in the blades:

Matt,

Here's a link to the blades that HF sells, do you consider these prices out of sight? I've been using them for a couple of years and
as long as you let the blade do the work and not FORCE it they last.

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?limit=60&q=multifunction+tool

As far as inkjet cartridges go I would suggest you check eBay where you'll find reasonably priced cartridges, you need to make sure
they specify they have Japanese or German ink.

I have a Cannon MX 860 Multifunction machine and have been using them now for at least 5 years without ANY problems.

I agree regarding using a Dremel tool for metal.

Gene et al,

For those of you who are not familiar with Aldi they are a grocery store that sells tools and other "stuff" as specials. They'll get
a bunch of left hand widgets in, sell them; and quite often you never see them again.

For example they sold a shop vacuum here in Sydney three years ago that I missed out on. It was unique because it had a socket for a
tool built into it. When you plugged a tool into that socket and turned the tool on the vacuum started and when you turned the tool
off the vacuum stopped. I was in the USA last spring when a mate of mine told me they had them again so I had him buy me one. That
was a rare instance as noted above you see them on the shelves and when they're gone they're gone.

Since the tools are made in China I'd guess they were the same quality. They are made for the home hobbyist not heavy duty
commercial service. In my estimation if you treat any tool from China "gently" they'll provide a service life which exceeds their
cost.

Rob M.

That's my approach. When I worked for Macs Engine, my tool chest was all Mac and Snap On. For fiddling around, most are now heathen chinee or some other Pacific Rim source. (I sold the collection to the guy who took my place at the flat motor shop.) Samesame in my RF career - all the test gear at work was Fluke - Simpson - Tek - HP - Advantest. At home I have one good Fluke clamp on, and a couple of $7 ebay analog meters. The Fluke is good for measuring the genset voltage under load, even Onans in small sizes put out a garbaged waveform. Otherwise, the cheap ones work and are easy to use... and if I forget and try to measure the number of Ohms in the wall plug, I didn't lose much.

Terry,

As I noted in my original email I've been buying after market ink cartridges for years. Early on the better quality and more
expensive ones listed that they were filled with German or Japanese ink. Those are the ones I bought and have been using for years.
I used them in a HP printer and two Canon printers without any issues. I just did an eBay search and it appears they no longer state
German or Japanese ink, here's what I found.

German ink:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/20-INK-to-CANON-iP4600-iP4700-MX860-MP980-PGI520-CLi521-/230527738571?hash=item35ac8622cb:g:0LgAAOSwZG9Wh
PMn

1db46c:m:mJ3AlnzpG1w2bgcliPU_edg

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10pk-non-OEM-PGi-5-Bk-pixma-MX700-MX850-ip3300-ip3500-German-with-OCP-ink-/160510553342?hash=item255f2cac
fe:g:jkAAAOxyhodR0EbL

Japanese ink:

Do an eBay search for Japanese ink and you'll find heaps of OEM cartridges made in Japan.

The bottom line is that it makes NO SENSE to buy OEM ink at OUTRAGEOUS prices when you can get aftermarket ink at a reasonable cost.

Rob,

When we ran HP IJ1600s, I bought ink from a known supplier he actually had different inks for different machines. I filled cartridges on my own and I know what you mean about ink cost. In that same time, an acquaintance that was "watching" me, bought much less expensive ink online. That stuff fouled up his print heads Bad.

I just went looking for cartridges for the Canon printer that lives in the coach (a left over from when it was my office). None specify the origin of the ink. The reman cartridges are all stocked in the US, so there is no bet. Now that the coach printer is no longer deductible, I am going to have to buy other than OE ink.
