Those of you who were at Dothan several years ago met Duke, the leader of our BWD pack. We said goodbye to him today. There's a .pdf on the photosite.

Johnny

So very sorry for your loss. Our dogs are family and it is terribly hard to say goodbye.

Johnny, sorry to receive such bad news. Dog friends are family in our
house. Got quite a few relatives that I would gladly say farewell to rather
than lose my dog.

Judy and I offer our heartfelt sympathy, Johnny.

The need to euthanize a most unusual cat due to
cancer of the jaw some 20 years ago still hurts.

Johnny,
We sympathize with you and yours. I had a hard time reading your Diamond Day eulogy regarding Duke to my wife tonight. We are so sorry to hear such news.
I was in a similar situation years ago with Alexander The Great (Pyrenees) and his wife, Anastasia (also a GP). Those were also stone days...

Johnny, we feel your pain. The hole in your heart will slowly close, bur Duke will just be beyond your eyesight.

Johnny,

You are getting more than your share of decisions and goodbyes. Very sincere condolences to you and your wife on your loss. One less BWD, one less happy tail wagging.

Best,

My condolences Johnny. While currently not a dog owner, I love the things and their good nature. I lost my faithful companion, Speedy, a BBD (actually a mutt that resembled a jet black Golden Retriever) a number of years ago at the age of about 16 yrs, and it still hurts. My mother had to have her 10 YO Golden put down a few months ago when she broke her hip on the way out the back door in her usual exuberant manner. We can get another dog, but they just can't be replaced. Great eulogy.

I'm sorry to hear about this Johnny. Especially since you were such a big help when after we lost Teddy last year. All of us who have lived with and loved well our family pets share in your loss.

Johnny,

I didn't write yesterday because I couldn't.

Some people never know how rich it is to be "happy at" by a dog. The hole is hard to fill but it will.
I lost my Bear over twenty years ago, and five dogs since that spot remains.

Paula and I would like to thank you all for your concerns, thoughts, and prayers, both public and private, over Duke's loss. This is an awesomely supportive group - friends we've met and those we've not yet met as well.

We move on. Young Sam, whom some of you met at Bean Station and/or Patterson is assuming his position as Head Dog in our merry menagerie. The mantle of leadership sometimes weighs heavily on an adolescent, but in the main he's picking up his duties admirably. He now sleeps at night on the threat axis, our bedroom door. When he learns that jumping on the bed is verboten (it's Cat Country) he will be promoted to foot of the bed, like his predecessor. Meantime, life endures and it's fun to watch him make decisions based on his new responsibilities.

Again, thank you all.

Johnny
