Hello,
For weeks I have been lurking, reading the list in anticipation of making
the leap into GMC mototrhome ownership. I'd never seen one up close and
personal, until this past weekend. There was, IMO, a very tired one on eBay
located near me in Jefferson, Georgia (near ATL and Athens). It was at a
pawn shop, being auctioned on eBay and while it seemed fairly complete, it
also seemed very tired. The bid was beyond anything I'd consider (I think
it ended at $4100 or so) for it but it gave me an idea of what they are
like internally. Not at all like the EM-50 on the movie Stripes!
So while I am on the hunt, I thought I'd reach out to others perhaps in the
area. I'm planning on hitting the upcoming rallies, but would love to see
other local ones, if anyone is willing to reveal the good, the bad, the
uglies. I started looking at travel trailer, then quickly motorcoaches.
Then interesting motorhomes.Narrowed it down to Travco, Airstream and a few
diesel pusher Winnebagos. I even entertained the insane idea of converting
a retired MCI 9 bus! Other than the Travco, they all lacked soul IMO. What
sold me on the GMC is the lack of axles--surely a better ride than other
motorcoaches, familiarity of a GM drivetrain (I've had a 1968 Eldorado and
a 1970 Toronado).
Just wanted to toss this out and to say what a great source of information
this forum has been. I am itching to get my hands one, not a project, but
not perfection either. I'll tinker, but I would like to start using it
shortly after acquisition. So, I am looking for something presentable, well
maintained and hopefully close by.

http://www.GMCers.org is a great starting place to all GMC Motorhome information.
Good luck

Tony, I think that's the coach one of our ex GMC owners turned down at $800 before they cleaned it up. I looked at it and also passed at 800. We'll be pleased to help wohmever pad that much for it, s/he's gonna need some help.
